Default Shocks and Shock angles on a NN Chassis ?

I was wondering what the the best shocks to use on my NN Chassis are? This is my first crawler and im not sure which ones work the best. What is a good shock angle to use for the NN Chassis with a 16 WB?

Any high quality 4 inch shock should be ok. Traxxas Big Bores are popular, Associated and Losi both make top of the line shocks.

Personally, I started with stock plastic T-Maxx shocks, and thought they were OK, then upgraded to Losi XXX-T Hard anodized rear shocks on all four corners. The truck flexes way better with the new shocks, and they are way smoother (the Maxx shocks were a bit old).

What you can do depends on your budget. I don't think shocks are as critical as in a race buggy, but you will generally be happier with higher quality stuff.

As for the angle, my NN is set to 14" (it's a 2.2), and I really don't understand the geometry, so I can't give good advice.

i use team Associated rear shocks from the T4 truck. I rebuilt them and removed the bump stop to get that last little bit of travel. I also run the 16" WB. I have them mounted so that the bottom link are close to parallel to the ground. They do slope up slightly from the axel to the chasis. I believe the angle can be altered, by sliding the mounts along the bottom links, without negatively effecting the performance. The ride height of the rig will be changed as you move the links. Mine is set up with approx. 4.5" of ground clearance at the belly. Keep the COG low.

Shock angle is really determined by ride height. Try to keep the ride height low to keep the CG low. The lower the ride height, the lower the angle of the shock. The angle doesn't really matter. As Todd1803 stated, we are crawling not racing.

BTW, I use the new T-Maxx shocks with the grey bodies (stock oil and springs) and they work fine.

The mounts are just thin aluminum sheet ghetto fab. I used thin material so as not to cause any stress on the chasis when screws are tightened. I am planning on getting some thin heat moldable plastic to redo them. I got the idea from The Crawler Stores NN page- the blue scale jeep by Bigdsti. I didn't like the look of axel mounted electronics. The battery is even removable, though it is a tight squeeze.

Funny, I had the exact same motivation. That blue Jeep was what convinced me that the NN was the chassis I wanted. I also don't like the look of having anything mounted on the axel. Here's a shot of mine. It's a slight variation on the same idea, but I mounted the receiver on the bottom side of the same plate the ESC sits on. It's an Airtronics FM unit, which is very compact, not sure if a standard unit would fit as well.

My receiver doesn't quite fit, but I tried it. It interfered with the movement of the top links. With a small receiver, it is a great idea. Nice build todd1803.

LST shocks would be way too big for a NN chassis, you need something 1/10 size. 2 LST shocks are almost as big as the NN chassis itself. But like I always tell customers, if there's a will theres a way, lol.

The springs are red with silver band right? The shocks I just bought have red springs but can't find a color band and I'm not sure if they'll be soft enough.
