Default old axels vs old

I was givin a vintage 1986 clod all original (got to love the G/F) i was wondering if there has been any changes in the design over the years that would have made the new ones stronger. simply do i need to worry about having 20 year old axels, mind you there in perfect shape their not even scapped up its like it was never driven

My '80 something axles, have survived 3 competitions, plus all the play/practice I've given them. 8-)
All I did was replace the gears themselves, so I could JB Weld them. (they were covered in grease, but they were/are fine)

Btw.
Reread your title...
