Default Mounting 7.2V battery on axles.

I've got my servos mounted inbetween the motor and axle so that lleft me a lot of room on the front face of the front axle and the rear face of the rear axle. Is there enough room to mount a 7.2 battery there? I know that sounds like a stupid question but batteries are on order and I can't seem to find any C-cells around the house to mock it up. I think there is.... I have to assume someone has done this if it actaully fits.

Anyways on my tuber build I'm really thinking about doing this for that ultra low COG!

i have done this nto on a clod but on a X-factor it worked out realy well--- here is how i had mine set up... i had a 1/4 scale servo and a E-Maxx battery tray and i just zip tied it to the sevo it kept a lot of weight on the front wheels

How would it afftect approach angles? It still would be behind the leading surface of the tires and I was thinking of mounting it no lower than the axles tubes.

Once you drive it you'll see what he meant.. You will hit your axle between the tires ALL the time. With the battery in there, you're risking some frightening things :nuke:

I've mounted mine on the bottom side of my upper links before, worked fairly well.

So is it better to mount them high on the axles or low in the center of the chassis... ?

Lets assume both those locations put the battery the same hieght off the ground. If they are in the chassis then "I think" during a climb more weight will be put over the rear tires. But if the battery is on the axle then won't that provided more weight to each axle? Thats what I was thinking. Just trying to spread the weight out more all over the rig instead of having all the weight in one central spot.

I have no idea which which better, so thats why I'm asking......

Think about when your rig is climbing a steep obstacle. Think about how high the weight of the battery is going to be if it is mounted on the front axle. Now think about how high the battery weight is if the batt. is mounted low in the chassis. IMO, battery low in the chassis keeps the CG low even when climbing something steep.

Rick, Josh just ordered new batt.s also, so if you want my old one, call my cell tomorrow and I'll bring it over tomorrow.

Lets see your pics of your servo mounts. what made you decide to put'em there instead of on the axles?

Pictures of them are here: http://www.rccrawler.com/postx4473-0-15.html

I did it because I can...... also it cleans up the front face of the axle and since I running dual batterries, This location would be a good spot if they fit and don't interfer with the tires or obsticles.

Are you runnigg dual batteries? If so, how do you like the balance compare to a chassis mounted battery?

If you do decide to mount your battery like that, make sure you have a thick, beefy skid plate in front of it, because you will bash the FUDGE out of it.
