Default brand new axles are GRINDING

bought a set of brand new, locked clod axles off ebay from clodjunky.
anyway finally got my first clod mobile! but it was bitter sweet. axles grind like a MOFO. not a tick, but a loud grind. sounds like baseball cards in bicycle spokes, its LOUD. any ideas? ive never assembled or worked on the inside of the axles..but looks like i may get a crash course :(
any help?

only thing i could think of (again a newb just guessing) is he got carried away glueing(locking) and theres like a blob draging on the case or something...

It sounds like the gear mesh is off, or the pinion set screw is hitting the spur gear.

The Clod internals are a pretty simple set up. Open it up and do a visual inspection. Should be an easy thing to find and repair. Good luck!

Open it up. It is easy to work on. I had a similar noise after the first several runs on my first clod axles. On the rear axle, one of two set screws on my pinion gear had come loose and was caught up in the gears. UUUGLY. Gears were mangled. May need to order new gears. Good luck.

2 set screw on your pinion gear? ive been in RC for like 10 years and never seen a pinion with 2 set screws.
well looks like im just gonna have to tear them down. from what i can see of spur gear threw the hole is looks PERFECT... o well.

Just out of curiosity - does ClodJunky live TX? I think its the same guy I've been buying parts from. Cool guy if it is.

As for the grinding, have you tried ear plugs? I've found that it makes the grinding noise less noticable. Last grinding I had in the axle was when my diff blew out the epoxy from the gears after my first locking attempt. Not pretty!
