| aluminum axles/gear cases
I was just wondering why not more people run with aluminum clod gear cases and axle tubes. Is it because they are not as good as the stock ones or is it because of the price? I was pondering about getting some JPS cases but I hardly see any crawlers using the aluminum ones. Your feedback and experiences would be appreciated. -Bob

you nailed it bud i think it's mostly because of price, if you break an aluminum axle tube when crawling you are out like $200, if you break a plastic one you are only out like $15 |

I love my Alluminum gear cases They give you awsome weight down low and also they are bullet proof. Oh and I have a skid on the bottom of my gear cases that I custom built. Finally done making parts for my clod Check my thread out and then make your decision :-P |

I don't think you could break an Aluminum axle tube at 5mph top speed. Oh and those portals are how I found RCC. |

Definitely a work of art, but I just couldn't bring myself to drag them over the rocks! Should be in a mechanical art museum somewhere. |

I'd say for me, it's all in the price. I'd love to have a couple sets - one to keep nice, and one to bash with.

I snapped an axle tube the other day when it got wedged in between two rocks and I woudn't give up, the C part snapped right off top and bottom! If anything I wish to own just the tubes in alloy and knuckles, that would make a rig super strong I feel. Gear boxes, you never hear of people braking that piece... the alloy does look mint thought thats for sure. Does anyone sell just the axle tubes? Or do you have to buy a full gear box... |

I am afraid if you just replace the axle tubes with alloy, you will just break the gear case where the axle mounts. There is always a weak link some where and I am afraid it would be the mounting flanges on the gear cases.:-P

Thanks for the link, those were the only ones I could find as well. I'll stick with cheap plastic and just order a bunch of back ups, thanks.... until I find a good sum of cash then boom, jps axles.
