Question 1/4 scale servo mount

I am thinking of using the 1/4 scale servo for my build. Anyone know if these are made by TTR, thecrawlerstore, rc4wd, etc?

It is my impression that these servos are cheap, durable and lots of torque?

Thanks,

Tim

I had the same question not too long ago. I ended up making my own bracket to mount to the RC4WD axle stays I had...works great.

One place I did find more available for 1/4 scale servos was guys that deal in robotics parts. Found some made of aluminum and of thick plastic...didn't fit my build though.

Why on earth would you need ~1000 oz of torque or more on an RC crawler? That's just overkill. Plus, they are even bigger than the 1/4 scales...making it even tougher to mount. Waste of cash unless your building a battle bot or something that has much more weight and force applied to it.

If its worth building its worth over building.

Dude, your preaching to the choir...I always build in some "overbuild" on all my 1:1 fabrication and that carries over to my RC crawler....but there is a point that you're way beyond "overbuilt".

For example, on 1:1 rigs, when I build bumpers or rock sliders I use 3/16" wall, when I want to overbuild them...I may use something like 1/4" wall thickness, but the ratio your talking about overbuilding is like using something like 3/4" material to build them.

The added weight and huge size is a drawback, and having 1000 oz of torque is just a "cool factor" and is way more than twice you'd ever need. If your RC crawler weighed 30-40 lbs.+ and had a wheel/tire combo that weighed 3 to 5 lbs. each...then I could see the need.

Question 1/4 scale servo

Don't yours require the wheels to be narrowed to fit? If so, can the servo be rotated 90 deg so there are no clearance issues?

To answer your question, the tires would probably have to have a more shallow offset(i assume thats the right term) Just narrowing the tires would keep them about the same distance, if not closer, to the servo. You have a fab shop, and I saw the rings you make. You could probably fab some up yourself pretty easily.

Don't know about Syco's servo mounts, but to even fit mine lyeing down on the axle stay...it took the wheel adapters that added 3/4" of width per side, and the X-75 Maximizer 3/4" offset wheel faces to make the room.

And this is what I ended up with:

Just a tip when shopping for a "cheap" 1/4 scale servos............you may run into the Hitec 8805, which is a fine servo in itself, but it is BIG!!! Just be sure to match up the servo you want to use with the measurements of the mount that you may use, since 1/4 scale servos are not all built the same.

Back when I ran 1/4 scales I only had to cut off the inside bead on my outbackes, I had CVD's and Syco's mounts.
