Default Need skid plate advice

Hi I'm looking for a skid plate for the axles on my new rig. Does someone make a bolt on for the front and back?? My crawler is not a shelf queen but I've put major rash on the axles already:-(

Any input would be great,

Your picture doesn't work.. Check the path.. file:///Users/perrygauthier/Desktop/Crawler1.jpg <- desktop paths don't work.

Here is what I have come up with for skid plates.

use protection?

I got some heat moldable 1/8" thick plastic from my local plastic supply house. I used a thin cardboard sheet to mock up a prototype, traced the design onto the sheet of plastic, and heated it in the oven, and then laid it over my axles and molded it to shape. It took several times reheating it to get it right, and then I used a candle to heat it for some final detailing. I want to make another version using 1/16". It is plenty strong. I am using mine to prevent my BTA steering from catching. I also designed it to cover the motor area in order to keep the area as smooth as possible.

Wow,
sound like fun. Can't believe no one has a product that they sell for the Clod axle

They do make several products, but they are not as low profile. I looked around but they all take away too much ground clearance. I believe that RC4WD has at least one design that they sell, and it seems that I have come across several other designs for sale. Most people do not use anything, as the axles last a long time with no protection.

If been out with mine only a few times and the bottom of the axles are trashed. I can handle scatches but I plan on using this thing a ton over the winter and want to protect it

I'll check out the rc4wd guy's

Thank you,

You don't want to run skids. The Clods axle cases are tough and inexpensive.

Ground clearance is key!!!!

Thank you for all the info on this. I am not going to run a skid plate on the axles. I guess I'll change it out when I can see the gears falling out right

This forum is great!
