Default StÝcklÉr

Well the other post was moved so many times it made my head spin. So I deleted and thought I would do this the correct way.

The design is based off the Stick® ideals. I gues you can call it a suspension set up more than anything else. Kinda like a 3 link.

I had to put this on hold for quite some time until I found out what the comp rules stated for width, hight and length.

Clodstall will be adding the Tech soon after.

Here is the teaser shot you saw yesterday. I'll add the real pics after Clodstall posts the tech.

I posted this only after I had approval it would be ok with Kevinlongisland (the Crawler store) to use Stick® references. All thought Styckler in no way represents Kevin or the Stick® Chassis.
I had the idea after looking at a Stick®, so I wanted to give proper thanks to Kevin and the Crawler store for allowing me to refer to the Stick®.

Pics. I tried to keep the pics to a minium and also because I've changed the design about 5 times. I have 4 half finished tubers started.
It's lower half is 1/4" tubing and the top is 3/16" to try and lighten it up a bit.
I'll also be adding a little something special to it. So stay tuned.
At this point it's about 75-80% done.

Well this has certainly peaked my interest. Are those heim joints on the front/back? Looks like it might be top-heavy, or are my eyes playing tricks?

Those are Heim joints (aka rodends )
It may be a little top heavy but I'm going to see how it sits on shocks before I make the call. If I do lower it, it will be about 1/2" and why I haven't put the side braces on it yet.

Shocks or no shocks, shouldn't change the height, it's a stick chassis right, there is no up/down suspension.

Yep. If the shocks don't reach the frame then it will come down to meet a good shock location.

It will have a mounting point on the backbone for a 2 shock version or he can choose to put 4 shocks on it attached to the tube frame. This way it won't have to be sent back for a better set up.

Intresting...I think that tube cage will be a hinderance, but neat to see an outside the box idea. I don't see how 4 shocks would work...they'll act as lock-outs...no articulation. Unless I'm missing something

Not anymore. deleted some space for ya.

I'll have the 4 shock set up at a pretty decent angle and it will give less articulation. We'll see how it works out.

Could you use square aluminum instead of the steel?, looks like it could be a bit heavy.

A local guy did that about a year and a half ago and entered the "World Crawler buildoff" or whatever it was.

I seem to remember it doing decent in competition.

I'm wondering if a "grid" or "screen" could be used as side, hood and roof panels?
If so How tight does it have to be?

Any rule makers have any in put for me?

Here is how the rules read:

Quote:
-2.2 class tube chassis are allowed with the following restrictions. Chassis must be at least 8"long, 3"wide, and 3.75"tall, the roof must be raised from the main chassis to resemble a cockpit, and it must have solid hood, roof and sidepanels.

-Supercrawler class tube chassis are allowed with the following restrictions. Chassis must be at least 12"long, 3"wide, and 3.75"tall, the roof must be raised from the main chassis to resemble a cockpit, and it must have solid hood, roof and sidepanels.
