Cool bottom shock mount/link question

hi im building a clod basher. im still kinda in the planning mode, but i came up with a prob. im going to build a tube chassis kinda like the new era kit but not with the roll cage. the top shock mounts will be easy, but i can figure out the bottoms. im going to make my own links either out of steel or alluminum(sorry i have bad spelling) witch is best? if i make the links out of steel i can just braze mounts on to the link. i couldnt with the other. but my chassis is going to be out of brake line and i dont want it to weight 20 pounds.

Some people use 1/4" wire clamps.

thats a good idea how do you keep them from sliding up and down. how well do they hold up to abuse?also what about steel rods vs allun. thanks

i just picked up some of those from radio shack and i didnt use any shock spacers and they seem to be tight enough to not slide around but loose enough to force them to slide by hand. i am thinking of wrapping some electrical tape around the link on each side of the little clamp or just roughing up the area with some 80 grit or so. i say go and get some they were only 1.99 for a pack of them

One of the guys in our group uses collars on the links to secure the cable stays in place... One on either side of the stay... Like the collars used on niro throttle/brake linkages...

I suppose that would depend on where you have them mounted and how hard you are on your rig! If your not scraping them over every rock then they last for quite some time. Nice thing is, when they do decide to go, they are a cheap fix!

Shock ends have been broken long before the collars and stays decide they're going to move...
