| Lower shock mounts
Does anybody know a good way to mount shocks to the lower links that works good? Maybe something comparable to the RC4WD lower shock mounts without paying $30 for 4 of them?

If you're using round rod for the lower links, go to Home Depot and get a box of cable stays/ties for the same size as the rod you're using... Home Depot or Radio Shack... The kinda that wrap the cable and have a hole on the "flap" to mount to the wall.. Like this style: Those come in many sizes and a few colours... |

Get the one that fits your links... Maybe a bit smaller... When you bolt the shock to it, do it good and snug... That should do it right there... Those clamps are used to keep cable from pulling around as well as keeping them in place... I've seen them on moe than one crawler... If you're really concerned, put some thin wing saddle tape inside the loop for more grip or a pair of collars.. One on either side of the stay...

That I can't help ya with as mine come thru a wholesaler...;) I used to be a low voltage installer doing pre-wires and/or additions... We got ours for CHEAP 'cos we bought them by the thousand lot... I have seen metal ones, but, where they came from, I don't have the slightest idea... |

ok, thanks. i will do some looking. if i can get metal ones, i think that idea will work pretty well. i had seen them on chassis before, but i wasnt sure if they were metal or plastic. i have been thinking about this for about 2 weeks, and that was one of my ideas.

The hustler comes with those and I have had a problem with them slipping. I seemed to have fixed it by wrapping the clamping spot with some electrical tape and putting a zip tie at both ends. So far I like them a lot more than the rc4wd ones because they will flex a little and give you better articulation.

i use plastic ones on my super.no problems. take tape or some small pieces of rubber and wedge in the spot between the link and the bracket. the metal ones have rubber on them already. |

Mine didn't have collars, and they were plastic. Metal ones with rubber coating sound perfect.

Try using sheets of aluminum and cut strips from that and wrap it around the link and bolt it at the top. It'll act just like the plastic wire holders you can buy. I am doing it this way and it works. I had to use some black wiring tape around the link before wrapping the aluminum so it doesn't slip.

I have the crawford ones on a clod and they work great. They came with some thin rubber that you sandwich between clamp and link and they grip tight.

If ya really want to be trick (and also if your running larger than 1/4" links where those kits won't work), do like Muddeprived suggested and just make your own from small strips of aluminum or even thin stainless that you wrap aroung your links...then for slip resistance you could dip them in Plasti-Dip or even get the aerosol can of Plasti-Dip and spray them with that. The aerosol will put a thinner coat on vs. the dipping. I have used the spray on for things like shovel handles and it works great for grip. I ended up just drilling and tapping some mount holes into the lower link to attach a bracket and it works great: Last edited by Offroader5; 04-16-2007 at 02:35 PM. |

Thanks for the ideas. I about did that last one, but i didnt know if my 1/4" rod would hold up very good with 2 4-40's tapped into it.
