| chassis thickness ?
i just got 2 clod axles . i traded my stock t-maxx tranny , wheels/tires , engine that needs a rebuild , and stock throttle servo for 2 clod axles and brand new chrome rims and tires . but any way my dad and his french friend just setup their machine shop in the back of my dads repair shop and i have alot of different stuff i can use to make this but i wanted to know what thickness of aluminum should the chassis be for toughness on the rocks . p.s. ill post a pics of the machine shop saturday, i think its really cool |

These are the basic dimensions I used to build my first chassis. This is an old sketch from Jay but it works |

1/16" would probably be good. Try it, & if you don't like it, experiment with thicker or thinner.

1/4"? Damn, thats way too thick. 1/16" is plenty as long as you cross brace it. And use some good aluminum like 6061 7075. Here's my original chassis. 1/16" side plates with 1/4" rod as braces and 1"x1"x.125" rails Last edited by AdamF; 03-05-2005 at 05:53 PM. | |

| 1/16th (.0625") is usually more than enough, but if you think you may need thicker material, you can always use .090" or even .125" if you think you need it. I would not recommend using 1/4" due to weight issues that you're bound to run into. |
