| Harley's 2.2 Stick The Crawler Store Harley's 2.2 Stick My first venture with a Clod, and I'm doing it right. I am trying to round out my 2.2 crawler corral, I have a TLT, a couple Wheely Kings, and so I thought I should try a Clod. I have never built a Clod, so I asked an expert what to do. I called Kevin at TCS and we talked about what I wanted to do, how I drove, and what he thought would work best. He told me exactly what I needed. Kevin shipped everything out Tuesday and it all arrived Thursday morning. As of now the build specs include:
I still need to decide a few things, such as how I am going to run my batteries and a few other things. It is a good start and a solid setup, but I going to need some serious drive time in to be competitive. I am determined to not come in dead last at the next comp. I am going to try and get it all setup as a roller tonight (minus tires). I want to get the electronics positions determined and the DX6 programmed if possible. I will get some pictures of my pile-o-parts up tonight I hope. Thanks Josh |

Alright here are some damn pics for you winers! Here is my little pile-o-parts I assembled the axles last night, I didn't finish them up yet because I am waiting on my lockers still. Start of the stick assembly About done........ Right now without the tires I am sitting at 11.1" wide Brushless baby!!! And here is the lid for the build. The ESC's, DX6, Chassis, Body, Servo, etc......... I plan to get the ESC's wired and mounted this weekend. I would like to get the freaking radio programed soon also. I installed the left stick return spring tonight, it wasn't too bad of a deal. I also ground the lip off of the hexes so the wheels sat a little more flush. The only other issues I ran into where when I had to grind the bolts on the adjustable motor mounts flush with the brushless motor mount plates. Anyway, I will update more as I do more. Peace out! If you drive like me trying out that twin stick setup plan on breaking parts! any close ups of that BTA setup? What servo mount are you running? Been a while since I've messed with clod axles and you seem to be up-to-date on products! |

The BTA setup and my diff lockers will be in the mail today or tomorrow. I am actually going to use the Thunder Tech Aggressor BTA kit. I hear that they have been changed from CF to AL and anodized black. I am not sure if this is the version I am getting or not but either way.......... I am also switching from the Thunder Tech lockers to the Integy units. I went and bought a new soldering iron this weekend and now I just need to get my wiring done. I just want it to look clean, I mounted the ESC's on top of each case, it looks tighty. It also leaves my other plates open for all the batteries for my LED exhaust tip, neon stobe underglow, valve stem lights, windshild wiper squirter LEDs, NOS bottle thats actually a subwoofer, and the DVD player. I will get more done tomorrow night and get some pictures up!

did you put the return to center spring on there? that was my biggest problem. I'm stilling running it without the return spring. It's like cruise control! |

Yeah, Run2Jeepn GAVE me one out of his spare DX6! I got it installed Saturday night I believe, it was kind of a batch but if I had to do another one it wouldn't take me long at all (note to self, make sure arm is facing right direction, NOOB). I was going to order the radio from Horizon Hobby, I was told if you call and order it from them over the phone they will install the spring for free. However Noob_Superman hooked me up with a brand new one for $165 shipped with the rechargable battery pack.

Well I finally got some more work done on this guy. I have been too occupied with the scale truggy. Last week I finished up pretty much all the wiring and assembly. I was just waiting on a few parts now. Well Brandon finished up the tires and got them shipped to me, they arrived yesterday. I decided to run foams this time instead of my typical airsoft pellets. So I got the foams narrowed up and I am about to run to the LHS to get some more glue. I might stop and see if I can get some led weight also. Anyways, I also plan to mount the body tonight. I just need to get pinions otherwise it would be running in a few hours. I can't believe my hobby shop doesn't even have 32p pinions in stock I would have put in 12 tooth pinions just to see it run. I will get the radio programed and see what I think. |

| I run the stock pinions, which are 13 teef, with 65 turn motors and it's pretty good actually. I think the BM9 is a little faster than a 65 turn, but it could work out good maybe. Pics of the nasty, man! Pics! |

Well this may be the only progress I get done tonight. I got the DX6 programed Front wheels and tires glued and 2 oz of weight added. Rear wheels and tires half glued rear ESC hooked up (still need to go get my castle link back so I can get them both programmed) Body mounted <-- not perfect but good enough. I solved my pinion problem, thanks Draven. I hope I can get this done late tonight and early tomorrow. I have to get some work done (my real job that is) tomorrow morning before the comp. Anyways on to the pics. Just a hair over 12" wide About 12.25" wheelbase Quick shot of the wheels and tires, I never have been good at gluing tires. Over 4" of center ground clearance before it even touches the body, over 5 before the chassis. There is about an 1" more articulation then shown here, I need to get it limited down to about 5" to 5.5" Lets hear what you think <--Attention whore. LOL Thanks for lookin. Heh. You put pictures of your stick on the net. Looks pretty cool Josh. You need to bring the clod with you tomorrow whether its done or not. And remember, if time is the only thing holding you back, just think of sleep as an option. |
