I use XTM Thorns. They are a tad larger in diameter than 40 series and clear knuckle packs with ease.

They come in gunmetal or chrome. I bought mine from hobby people.

Here are the links:

gunmetal is currently sold out http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/145521.asp

chrome

I'm running RC4WD narrow 40 series beadlocks with RUN2's knuckles and RCGUY 12-14mm adapters.

Are you running out of ID or Depth? I had no issues with the ID using
RC4WD knuckles and some delrin holders but i did have to fabricate
some .312 extenders for a bit of added depth because i narrowed
the Axials on the inside....

i also was able to get the axials to work with aluminum knuckles. you just need to mount the batts to the knuckles with something like velcro or double sided tape so that they dont slide around and then crank down on them with a zip tie. it was a close fit but it worked.

I like the velcro idea, mine slide a bit from side to side on the delrin with
just a zip tie holding them..

Stang,
I also had to remove the inner stiffeners from the rims for some added
clearance, milled them down just passed the hex. Would be nice not to
run the wideners though, 15.5" it tight on a 20" gate, but i don't see
that happening since i'm already rubbing links as it is now..
