Wouldn't dampend torsion be the same as a leaf sprung vehicle?? Maybe closer to 1/4 eliptic but with wire instead of leaf springs??

Kinda, but a bit more aticulation. The shocks (dampening) will help reduce the spring back that is often associated with "torsion" type of rigs like this.

I'm still working out the mounting Ideas but that should be the simple part

id say build it to do both, mounts for torsion,and mounts for links and shocks

I'll try to set it up like I did my TLT BULL. If I don't like the torsion then I can simply un bolt it.
