Default Tuber Project, Need Opinions

Originally this started off as just a cage for an existing truck, then I got thinking maybe a full on tuber. Did alot of reading and looked at alot of trucks. "Search" is becoming one of my new best friends . My issue is that I think that the cab area maybe to tall. Here are the specs of the truck

JB locked diffs
TTR CVD's frt, straight rear
Rooster Crawler
Servo still undecided
Integy 55t
Adj MTR mounts w/9th pinion
Proline 40's/Moabs (yet to be narrowed and foam cut)
Possibly wideners
Conversion to BTA
17" wb

Now a few pics

Any advice, opinoins welcome. I gotta learn some how.

first off... learn how to post pics- alot easier for us.

If you think your COG is too high; you might wanna see how it crawls setup for full droop. easy to do- remove springs; go drive over rocks. you might like ti, you might not. if you do like it; then you can take the time to fine tune that setup.

next, if you are planning on competing you will need to make it full tube. as you are setup right now, you do not fall under the tuber class requirements; you are under the lexan body requirements. What you have there is a chassis'd rig with a tube body, not a tube chassis. do some searching or PM grizzly4x4, he knows all about that.

if you are not planning on competing; then I would say leave it, looks good.

Answer one.....I've been trying for weeks. I've been using PB for a few years with no probs, and not sure why all I get are RED X's. I'm not a newb to posting pics, I've done it on other sights already. Anyone with any advice other then the obvious posting set-up is greatly appreciated.

The truck you see is the donor truck. I started building this project as a cage, but now I want to try a full on tuber. If you could imagine the chassis plates missing in the pics, thats roughly what the rig would look like.

As for competing, not too much around here, but I'm trying. LHS owner just bought an AX10, flipped him over to here to read up on all of the news. So we'll see where that goes.

This is my first attempt at a tuber and I know there will be mistakes. If I need to scrap it and start again, then so be it. We all learn from mistakes, and it's only money. I'm sure the wife will make some more

BTW thanks for the advice.

i think it looks great. it does sit a little high, but you could easily change that by lengthening you wheel base with longer links. What is the wheel base of the truck as it sits now?

16" as it sits, but will be 17" when done and about another inch lower.

Thanks, got a little more progress tonight. I cut out the link plates, just need to get them mounted and I can get rid of the donor chassis. Still trying to figure out wether to make up some shock hoops or direct mounts on the frame.

Thanks again, also thinking about running a second support hoop under the front of the cage. I'll try a mock up tomorrow and see how it looks. If all goes well I'll have some more pics tomorrow.

Looks great jagg. Way to do your homework before starting, it looks like it helped a bunch.

Can't wait to see it completed.

I know I've said it before, but Thanks again. I'm glad that there are guys like yourself willing to put up with all the questions. All the advice really helped .

Sadly not too much progress. The wife has been out of town, and my 3yr old daughter wants to help build everything. Unfortunately she's to young to solder, so we've been building her a new toy box. I'll hopefully get more time this weekend.

Well I got a few more braces, and the link mounts done. I got a bit of learning still when it comes to brazing (it's not pretty, but it's strong). It's getting powder coated, so that will hide a few of the mistakes. Just need to figure out what to do for the shocks.

Hopefully get more done tonight.

Scrapped the chassis on the donor truck and tried a couple of quick mock-ups.

3.75" GC, and 16.25' WB

5.25" GC and 16" WB

Still planning on a 17" WB, just have to mess with the GC a bit.

Worked away at the truck for a bit trying to figure out what was wrong. So I decided to try a longer set of links and got my 17" WB .

5.25" GC and 17" WB

3.5" and 17.25"

Last pic looks like it's set up for droop?

One of my concerns has been that it's too big, I'll see how it looks after it's done. I can always build another one.
