Thanks! |
Damn those are some really nice photos! I need to get a SLR been putting it off but I think the time is coming. ;-) Love your car. I have the 35R and it is great for climbing. I have a Mamba coming in next week for my touring car I might throw it in for kicks and see what happens. LOL |
can't hurt to try it. I hurt my rig yesterday. Rolled it off some rocks and broke off the roof rack from the base so only the base was attached to the body. Must have been the cold air making the plastic inflexible. It was real fun super gluing all those upright posts to get the thing back together again:roll: |
Took the CR-01 to the ECRC Spring Fling yesterday. Ran it in the scale class. This was my first comp. Looking back i probably could have been more deliberate with my moves. I got 5th place out of 11 entrants, not too bad I suppose. A few shots. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0054.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0049.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0082.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0445.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0446.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0448.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0449.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0450.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0451.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...9/DSC_0452.jpg A few pics of my rig taken by one of the members with my camera while I went for my runs. All 200 of my shots are here. |
5 Attachment(s) Looks like an awesome time! We got out as well... |
Did either of you two star cut the foam in your factory tires?? I did and the side wall are just to soft. Looks like you guys had a great time, diggin the little road signs too! ...Tom |
This is a real nice looking rig. I enjoyed the photos, it looks like you get to wheel it a lot! |

Looks sick with the Defender body on it! |

I'm going to attach a Proline Western bumper to the body during comps since their rules state the wheels can't extend past the body in front or rear. And in the stock form the CR wheels hang back about .5-.75". The bumper should be just enough to take care of that without changing up my wheelbase. That whole crawler course is amazing and made by one man. Stone bridges, wooden plank bridges, log bridges, tunnels, waterfall, river, and lots of climbs, all in one section of his front yard. Curt is the guy who made it, his name on here is crawlinghulls. |

Why does this hobby have to be so addicting? After the bumpers I have to chill out on buying stuff. Gotta save up some money for http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3472/...a06df6c2_b.jpg $200 |

This is one of the few primes that will autofocus on my D40. I could go with the Sigma 50mm F1.4 HSM and can auto focus but its double the price. But this is Nikon, its got to be good glass |

I just love your pics and your FJ40. What color is it? Is that the Tamiya orange? |
Thanks, That is actually Pactra Yellow. But I have my camera set to Vivid and the saturation up a bit plus some of the pics i have a 81A warming filter on my lens so the body takes on an orange hue. |
Like the Yellow Thanks for the thumbsup on the defender body. BTW - you mention that you bought stuff from Ebay from "Jasons store". Do you usually buy alot from him. I'm asking cuz I was thinking of upgrading my set-up for the "Dig" unit from RCTrax (TCR-dig1). I just need to know if he is reliable and speedy with shipping. Are you orginaly from PI? |
Jason's store has been good to me. Fast shipping even though its in Hong Kong. rc.sausage.dog on ebay has shipped quick to me as well and thats in Hong Kong. No I'm not from PI. Born & bred in Connecticut:) |
Testing out a new location with my bent links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cegA_17NqUU Let me know what you think. Hard to crawl and film at same time. HA! "thumbsup" |

I have video from my parking garage spot and elsewhere but I still can't get my laptop to recognize my camera...And their both Sony, go figure. |
No LR yet...waiting for my Airbrush gun to show up. Got the paint so I am getting close.HA! |
New stuff added! Tamiya bent links, as beautiful as I've heard. These things are little works of art. I almost don't want to run them :) Clearance is sick though! http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1250.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1236.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1237.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1238.jpg Also, now a fully lighted roof rack! Forget about low CG now! This lid feels as heavy as a hard body  But it looks so good! http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1252.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1239.jpg A few more out at the rock at Mohegan Park http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1240.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1241.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1242.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/DSC_1244.jpg Thank Eric (Lunchboxer) over on rcu for the quick parts connection! |
You are digging those bent links aren't you? THat looks real good Nick! I am trying to work out my suspension now that I put the new Tamiya shafts in. I will post pictures tomorrow. "thumbsup" |
Yeah they are cool. I enjoy the new lights even more. Freakin wicked light at night! |
The bent links do look good. Are they the same front and rear? I just have the fronts at the moment. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2.../trialrun4.jpg |
The fronts are more bent than the rear. |
Yes, almost a 90 degree bend at the fronts so they can clear the spring perch. That was an issue with my 3Racing links. If I mounted them the way they are supposed to be, they hit the spring perch and always twisted to the side. |
I saw you redo the cantilevers. You think it's still a better config huh? DT |
Yes I went back to cants. It seems to work the way I want with the cantilever installed. Its especially good now using the ziptie trick around the cantilever arms. It seems thats really all it took to have a good tight suspension and no wobbly body. |
The zip tie trick really does make a big improvement. You will find your rigs tipping point to be much more predicable. I do find that without the cantilever setup that I have more travel (at least with my shocks). |
Lights "look so good" only when you are not looking at the mess of wires inside of the cab...Have any plans of cleaning that up? Love the cruiser though for sure. Maybe just tint the crap out of the windows? JB |
Ha, yeah, they can't be seen from the normal angle you usually see the truck, like when driving it. But trying to take the low angle pics its all you can see. I thought about the tint spray, but this body is getting old and beat, I'll just leave it as is. I see a Bronco body in my future as a replacement. |
To route the wires on my rally car I routed the wires along the painted areas and held them in place with Shoo Goo. But you have a lot more wires to hide - how about pulling all of the excess wire up into your roof rack and hiding it in something like a cooler. |
yeah, right now I've got them just bundled and stuck to the underside of the roof with those stick on wire guides Tamiya gives you. There's just sooooo much wire I could have put the light control unit in a trailer and still have enough wire to reach the truck:lol: I could get a cooler to hold them on the roof, it would be a pretty big scale cooler or two small ones then send the wires down through the base of the coolers to the control. I got the wires super neat up on top black ziptied to the light bar and then under the roof I guess it could have been worse:) |
|
looks great! |
Added more weight to the wheels this weekend. Now its got 9oz in each front and 6oz in each rear. It definitely helps offset all the crap on the roof, starting to be a bear to carry though! |
How are those shocks doin for you and waht size are they? Can I get a pic of the cantilevers ziptied? THX in advance |
The shocks are 104mm and they are working great. I'll have to get a up close shot of the ziptied cantilevers. There is some pics in the forum though from other guys who have done it. Here is the original thread with pics Also page 8 on EeePee's CR-01 thread has pics. |
