Do you think Tamiyas' XC-01..CC-01..CR-01 ever make a good Comp Scaler and How much will it take...? I had a CR-01 a while back but got rid of it pretty quick due to the way it crawled... I miss it

Which one? CC01 and CR01 are 2 very different platforms. Either way - comp scaler? No, not without a ton of work.

I agree... sucks though... It's got a great looking scaler stance... And Tamiya has such a big name in the RC game you would think...

Tamiya has and always will do things their way. See the TA07 touring car they just released.

Having said that, I have 5 CC01's and 3 CR01's - very fun and unique rigs to build and tinker with.

Tamiya starts off less costly (if you shop around) leaving cash for hop-ups and improvements.

Even the more expensive "other" models are not great out of the box, and need improvements.

Look at all the parts available for all the comp rigs. Axles, gears, links, etc.

So starting with a less expensive Tamiya means a little less $$ in the long run.

My CC-01 has way too many $$ in it, but since it started at $170 from Tower Hobbies sales, I can afford a lot of better pieces. Had I started with a $400 "better" brand, I still would of done all the same improvements, and be even deeper in the hole.

You can make a fairly decent scale rig out of a CR01, but it may never perform like a SCX10 or Ascender. But I feel Tamiya vehicles are in a league of their own and I enjoy them.

On my original CR01 I had, I ditched the canti set up and and ran a regular shock setup on it, that was a huge improvement as it simplified the chassis, lowered the CG and provided a lot more flex. On my current CR01 , I left the canti setup in place as it is original to the truck and I wanted something different. I installed the Tamiya barrel spring set, which lowered the ride height and tuned the suspension a bit more than stock springs. I also added some weight to the wheels, just doing those couple of simple things, it made the rig much more capable and I really enjoyed putting it through it's paces this past weekend. I also try to run a lighter weight Lipo in the rig, to also help keep the COG down.

I picked up a CR-01 Bronco because I like Tamiya vehicles. I have had a few others in the past and I'm planning on getting another Clod and probably a Unimog.
I got the barrel springs, I've been looking at heavy wheels.Who makes a heavy wheel that fits the CR-01?

I've got my CC-01 modified to the point that it will darn near follow a stock SCX10 anywhere, mod the SCXq0 and the CC-01 can't touch it. Still ton's of fun to play with.

I've got the CR-01 Bronco sitting in it's box as well as a SCX10 II on its way. Will be interesting to see how the 2 compare when I build both.
