you don't need the foam in the tires it will work good without it, or you can cut half of the foam off so it is a small donut that works good too

Most people including me run no foams in their Masher's.

Well It really depends on the weight of your rig. Yes most people don't run foams in 2.2 scale rigs. But I had to run them in Ralph because it was a couple of pound chassis. So before you glue the tires it's best to do some testing. I ran ALL-T's on Ralph with foams. I just used some 2.2 Losi racing foams cut in half. Wheels ran full foams and he won a comp with that set up and it wasn't a heavy rig either. So, DO YOUR OWN TESTING!!! see what works for you.

I don't think drilling holes in foams would have as good an effect as cutting chunks out of them. Drilling holes vs cutting chunks would be like cutting the foam's diameter in half and using the outer portion vs the inner portion. In using the outer portion there's more flex than stock (drilling holes) but it's still providing support for the tire. In using the inner portion (cutting chunks) there's even more flex but no tire support; not a bad thing for pure crawling. For my Goliath, since I planned on it being a basher/crawler, when I cut my foams I used the outer portion in the rear tires and the inner portion in the front tires. But for pure crawling with tires that have tall sidewalls and especially those with no side-biters, the idea is to have a small portion of foam around the wheel so the tire can flex a lot, but not over-flex and catch on the wheel. I'd say go with that route if using foams at all, unless your rig is heavy, in which case cut carefully and you can experiment like Rckjeep mentioned. |
