Actually I think 4 links that go onto one rod end on the link mount is most popular

Basically, they are the same thing and there are no advantages to either one that the other doesn't have. Two triangulated links work exactly the same as the third link in a 3 link.

I've heard that if you don't setup your four link properly, you get binding on the bulu's. But you could just as easily do that with a three link setup as well. As far as making the links, search around. ALOT of techniques from threaded rod sleeved in metal, to arrow shafts, to revo links. |

gregrocks, it seems like your axle would be all over the place with that setup. A three link will work fine if you can keep the End on the chassis from twisting. You could do this by brazeing (or welding) an aluminum rod to a tube between the chassis plates that the upper link is supposed to mout to. This should form a T shape. Then put a hyam joint on the bottem part of the T shape. This is a little confusing, but basically you just need to fix one end of the third link to only allow it to move up and down.

[QUOTE=JakeTheAlligatorMan]Sorry but Yes, way more then a 4-link or a real 3-link. Seen it myself. Not impressed. That is not a 3 link, Zero Triangulation=Loose Vagina-Spaghetti Link. Again sorry, but in my opinion that Link idea is an abortion gone terribly wrong! I just can't stand to see anymore Lemmings jump off this Cliff. that's cool jake, then don't look. the guy wanted to see some pics of 3 and 4 link set-ups, so i posted my pics. call it a 2 link, i don't care. don't take my word for it, other people on this forum have seen and driven my rig. it's an awesome crawler. bottom line is you have not seen it in person, no sway here. |

Greg, your set up is a 3 link. It's not "triangulated" because both uppers & lowers are not in a triangle. I can't see how the axle doesn't wonder. With a properly set up 4 link the axle will NOT wonder side to side. That means the the upper links need to be wide at the chassis and narrow at the axle. The lowers need to be wide at the axle and narrow at the chassis. The lowers work against the uppers and vice versa. I'm sure your setup flexs nice but it would never work in a 1:1. it would be put so much stress on the links mounts it would fail very quickly. Now I know this because I've seen a poorly designed 3 link fail right in front of me. It was a winch fest to get him out let me tell you. But I would like to know what ball ends you are using? They look sweet! Last edited by rckjeep; 06-24-2005 at 07:56 AM. |

i understand what triangulated is. never claimed my set-up was triangulated. my main beef is with jake saying it doesn't work when he has never seen it or driven it. no problem with you, rckjeep. the shocks tie it all together, keeping it from wandering around. never claimed it was BETTER than a 4 link, just different. i'm sure it wouldn't work for a 1:1 rig, and never claimed that, and what i DON'T know about 1:1 crawling could fill several books. when i was first putting the bulu together, i could not get a 4 link to work to save my life. saw plenty of 4 link bulus that obviously worked great. nobody on this board would help even getting me in the ballpark, let alone exact link lengths. if they didn't want to give away secrets of their competition rigs, fine. i know my set-up is not tradtitional, or it's crap, whatever you want to call it. but this thing keeps up with clods and crawls like a mutha. again, don't take my word for it. i'd put it up against any other unlimited 2.2 rig in a comp. oh yeah, the ball ends are the stock tamiya! |
