| A nice little scale project
Well, I got some work done on the truck today, so here are some pics. I still need to mount the body and work on the rear suspension a little along with mounting the transmission, but its coming along nice. I did clamp the tranny into the truck and apply some voltage to it to make sure that it would run. This little bugger darn near got away from me in the garage. Next time i will have to ensure that i use an esc when i do this. With the tranny and battery in place, i can get one wheel up on a pop can with no problems, and short of putting a screwdriver through my finger trying to get the stupid little yokes into the traxxas driveshafts, it was a good day. I have build a transfer case to attach a tamiya 3 speed semi tanny and I am using the traxxas stampede outdrives for the driveshafts, here are some pics... This is the transmission and transfer case. This is how the axles will be connected. This was the project that i built before the 55 chevy. The traxxas drivelines are very strong and should work well. As far as i am concerned, the dogbones that came with the tlt are worthless, but for the price, the axles are good and i got a ton of hardware that i am using on the truck. Nate |

Sounds great and I cant wait to see pics. If you can, just get rid of the stock ball diff. Maybe use traxxas slipper pegs instead of the balls. The stock setup is weak from what i have seen. Nate |

I got it running today!I used the traxxas shafts and yokes.I had 2 drill out the center of the stock drive and I cut it down on both sides and put a shaft threw it so its all one peice now.I just got 2 do some fine tuning and get a new reciever .I'll get some pic soon and post them.

sig it looks great! one thing I caught though, was that the cantilevers are not at the right angle for good suspension control. You might be able to move the shocks up like on the TXT. other than that it looks excellent, did you paint that body?

Thanks for the suggestion on the cants, I think i got it figured out. I have not had a ton of time to work on it lately, but its finally up and running and boy does it run. As for the body, that was stock paint, its in the body shop at the moment getting ready for the old school flames. Nate |

That is looking great! I love the shell and the way the chassis mimics the vehicle lines. I know what you mean about those traxxas sliding shafts, trying to get the bloody yoke in is a nightmare. Best to hold the thing in a vice for safety! I've had loads of problems with my traxxas shafts though, the yoke rips out whenever I get a wheel locked under an obstacle or something or even if I'm climing something too steep for the truck, the huge torque from the reduction drive simply tears the yoke out of the plastic shafts. You can get away with refitting them a few times but after that the plastic enlarges or grooves and I have to fit new ones. |
