| Average Gearing Used?
Hello all Finally got me a TLT so it is time to start picking brains. Been wondering what type of gearing most end up using. Can't really find much other than some use Pede transmissions, some E-Maxx and a few I believe used Losi set ups. Can't really find real numbers (ratios) as to what people are using. For example, my big trucks are 110:1 and another is 129:1 final drive. I'll assume this is retarded low for a 2.2 crawler. Any input would be wonderful. Also, what might the stock final drive be on the TLT out of the box? |

my total rollout (inches per motor revolution) is .25 in low gear. haven't measured in high. this with an E-Maxx tranny, TLT axles and 10/70 primary gearing. stock TLT gearing is 24/83 primary, 15/32 belt reduction, 16?/40 axles (Tamiya doesn't list tooth count and i'm too lazy to open my axles and count teeth) works out to 18.44:1 my drivetrain 10/70 x 13/36 x 16/40 in low: 48.46:1 10/70 x 18/31 x 16/40 in high: 30.13:1 Last edited by microgoat; 06-29-2005 at 06:24 PM. I can't help you with the stock ratio, but my TLT runs 40:1 with a lathe motor. Before that, I ran 65:1 with a Multiplex 600.

Okey doke, so somewhere between 40:1 and 60:1 should be workable from what I gather from your replies. Got some dreaming to do, see how this thing is gonna be built. Really really wanna do a tube chassis (rock buggy type) but I am not to good at stuff like that. Might have to cough up some dough and buy one or have one built. :?

Hmmm...I'm running about 35:1 total with Masher 2K tires and a lathe motor and I'm happy with it. I don't think I'd want it any slower, good wheel speed is sometimes nice to have. David |

| My gear ratio.
I am running 140:1 not including the tires in the equation. It truelly crawls probably too slow, we shall see. With a Lathe Motor, this setup wouldn't work too well. You would need a fast motor with this setup. I have never been a big fan of "wheel speed" in the 1:1 world. Seen way too many broken parts that way. Motor with a GD600 Gear Reduction - 2.5:1 Tranny 21:1 35/10 = 3.5 35/20 = 1.75 69/20 = 3.45 ---------------- total = 21.13 Motor 2.5 Tranny 21.13 Axles 2.66 ----------------- Grand total 140:1 |

From my understanding the pede tranny is called a Magnum 272 b/c of it's 2.72:1 ratio. The TLT axles are 2.5:1 87t spur / 15t pinion = 5.8 5.8 x 2.5 x 2.72 = 39.44:1 final ratio This is a bit slow for some situations but works rather well for most. Oh yeah I'm running a lathe motor and Mashers 2K's I can't wait to see what you come up with! |

RCALLOY, Are you planning on making a custom tranny?

Pitbull (Juggy tranny) is at 64:1 and I love that ratio. Red Bull (pede tranny) is now at 42:1 and I found it a bit high. ;) |
