| your opinion on a cuple of items
okay, i wanna know what you guys think about these. I am gunna be getting the 2.2 moabs when they come out and i need some rims to go with them. My car already rolls alot on off camber climbs and turns and such, so i kinda wanna make it wider when i get the new, taller tires. Currently i have m2ks on pede front rims. which of these rims do you think will be best? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRD76&P=7 ^hpi mt mesh rear wheel black http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM875&P=7 ^hpi ss monster wheel rear black http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEXA1&P=7 ^hpi split 5 wheel gray http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCAN2&P=7 ^ofna 2.2 truck wheel chrome and i also need to get some aluminum hexs because mine are spinning. so i think that the sharper edges will work better and keep the hexs from spinning in the wheels. Do i really need clamp on hexs or are they just a waste of money. what do the clamping hexes even do?? i know that they clamp (duh) but does that help anything? here are the choices of hexes i am trying to decide between. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHFL9&P=7 ^hpi aluminum hex hup clamp type 12mm http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJYM5&P=7 ^hpi aluminum hex hub 12mm thanks harris |

I'm not sure about the rims but the alum. hexes I'm using are these: Tamiya Pin Type Wheel Adapter 81/49 (4), Manufacturer Stock#53056 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGE28&P=7 Personally I don't like them. they are still sloppy in my pede rims...... I just hate the idea of shelling out $15-$20 for some clamp on hexes if they are going to be the same outside dimension as the ones I'm using now. Last edited by 4RnrRick; 07-28-2005 at 02:04 PM. |

all the wheels will work fine I use the black monster SS HPI wheels on multiple rigs. I've got the split 5's already narrowed and awaiting the Moabs.

rckjeep, do you think that you could tell me how wide your rig with different the different hpi rims is so that i can compare with my current setup? also do you have a problem with rolling on offcamber climbs and turns? my car seems to roll on a 30* turn or more and i kinda would like it to be more stable. especialy with the taller tires. thanks harris | |

If width is a issue Id get those ofna rims. Thing is sold out T_T i had em in the cart but someone beat me to the last set. The HPIs for me dont have enough beef around the hex thus leading to spinning. I got a set of tamiya clampers and those are even floppy inside the HPI. Its like HPI are really 13mm not 12mm. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEXA1&P=7 I have this set width with tg10 axles is 260mm / 10.5" this is with the 4mm hex adapters on. Itll be narrower than this if you use the ones in the HPI rim set. With blackfoot axles itll be um, 275mm / 10.75" With the same Hexes. hrm only a 1/4" width change ;p spacers used are 1 olite and nylon bushing from the tlt, only about oh 1mm of play which a pede spacer fills. Oh forgot this is measured from the far outside of the tyres http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRD76&P=7 The above wheels have hardly any offset so they tuck in a lot. 2.2 rims come usualy in 2 flavors the old high offset from the late 80s seen on losi and AE trucks. Then the more modern low offset which allow the suspention to hinge more within the wheels center. The good old 5stars come in both offsets so be wary when buying and double check which they are >_> As for the clampers I like them cause they stay on the axle and not inside the rim. So im not chasing stupid drive pins all over the rocks or where ever Im doing matinence. Oh as well to note stock tlt axles will not allow the locknut to fully engage, not enough threads same goes for blackfoot axles ( got a few yesterday) So either get locknuts from ACE and install em backwards or get TG10 Axles. Oh yes, stampede rims have a lot of offset just get the electric wheels nitros have low offset. Last edited by Madkoifish; 07-28-2005 at 06:24 PM. Reason: added width measurements and something I forgot ;p |

Do you have a link to the tg10 axles? maybe those will be worth spending some dough on. If i get those i dont think that i will be going with clampers but ohh well. such is life. i might also just go with the ofna rims and stay with my current axles and such. even though it would be nice to do things correctly the first time. I hate spending money on something that i will just later be upgrading. Ya gotta get the best the first time around. harris |

lol yeah hold on , issue is tg10 axles are as annoying to locate as blackfoots. Waited 2 mo for the LHS and tower never had em so far. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGM26&P=7 make sure they are the REARs the fronts are just a crome version of the tlt axle. |

lame! well i think that i will just get the rims and keep using my nuts backwards as that seems to work. worse comes to worse and i will make the hub of the wheel narrower so that the nut has more grab. i think that i will be getting the ofna rims, hpi non clamping hubs, and some 2.2 moabs. thanks harris |

GO WITH THE OFNA ONES!!!! their offset is CRAZY . I use them on my truck and it widended it about 1 to 1 3/8. ALSO ABOUT THE HEXES... take the stock ones and grab some super glue and baking soda... sprinkle some backing soda inside where the hex goes in the rim and then put super glue in there along with the hex...

Issue is I dont want fixed hexes. I want the buggers to hold those annoying drive pins in. I would have JBwelded or chembonded the things ages ago if that was a solution.
