| "The Duck" tube chassis build
Well, since I sold my last chassis (The Rock Ripper) to necro here on the board, I decided to build a new one. This one is going to be called The Duck. It is built of mostly 3/16" solid rod (not as heavy as I thought). The lower is 5/32" rod with some flat plate steel. It is all welded together instead of being brazed like my last chassis. I think brazing looks much cleaner, but I like welding better. Some of the specs of the finished crawler will be TLT axles obvioulsy, an Axial trans with the DNA dig, Novak Crawler brushless system, 645MG servo for now, and some type of LiPo battery. |

Daffy, Donald, or Howard. If you make panels like wondersquirrel's pic then I'm afraid to comment on what the front driveshaft would look like. |

No flex pic yet. Here are the last pics for the night. You can see that I am using the slipper out of a Stampede transmission on the Axial transmission. I moved my steering servo off to one side of the axle, so it won't hit the chassis. And you can see the big lipo, it is my spare battery for my B44. I got a smokin' deal on it too. I got it from one of my friends who ended up not using it, and I only paid $40 for it. The skid plate is made from Lexan, I think it will hold up well. I have thrown it on the ground and shot it multiple times with a pellet gun, point blank. I think that is more than a rock can do to it. |

| Awesome rig!
That is an awesome rig you built there. As there are many on this forum. I guess I need to learn to braze so I can step my game up lol. |

Thanks! Yea, I have always liked the look of a bent roof line on 1:1 crawlers, so I wanted to put one on this one. It just gives it that mean look. klown: Brazing isn't that hard to learn. The hardest part for me was learning the correct distance to keep the torch, so the brazing rod can melt and flow well. I welded this chassis though, I brazed my last one, and I like welding better. While I am on the subject of brazing...I was brazing the blind nuts on for body panels, this morning, and I had to just laugh at my self. I had one nut left to get brazed on before Xtreme 4x4 came on. I was in a bit of a hurry and wasn't paying as much much attention as I should have been. Well I managed to braze a pair of vicegrips to the chassis. The good thing about this happening was that I know that the nuts won't be comming off with out a fight. I had to put alot of strength in to getting the bond to break. here is a pic |

| I've been running a Lexan skid on my SW3 for a little over 8 months now and it has held up great. I was worried about it being to brittle, but I was wrong. The only thing with mine is.......you can't see thru it no more! :-( It is pretty scratched up.

Well, I got it all put together today. I was driving it around the living room and it was doing fine. The DNA dig works great and the axial transmission is a zillion times quieter and smoother than the stampede transmission that I used to run. Then about 1.5 min into the run, I shifted into free wheel, spun the crawler around and tried to shift to 4wd. Nothing happened. The servo was warm but not hot, and it didn't smell like burnt electronics. My EPA is set perfect on the servo, there was no chatter comming from it. I don't have a clue what happened to it.

Well, I said screw it and cut up the DNA servo mount. I am now using a JR Z590 that I had lying around. It works great. I will get some pics later tonight.
