wow... I sure wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those rear mounts... looks pretty good

I wouldn't imagine it'd be too hard to make... It looks like a piece of strap aluminum bent and drilled to work...

sorry guys, but no one ever helped me identify what vendor made those rear mounts. I wanted another set of them myself. The truck belonged to 'onlyinajeepxj', so maybe he knows. I PM'd him but never got a responce.

They are a nice, solid mount. I'd like to find more.

I got a piece of 1/8 x 3/4 inch aluminum. I may try to make a couple for my jk scaler. I think the axles are only 3/4-1" wide.

your copy turned out pretty good. any idea of the grade of aluminum you used? I tried some 2021 T2, but it was still too brittle to make a 90* bend with a 1/16" radius.

Thanks. I honestly have no idea. Its just a 3' piece of 3/4" from Home Depot. They only had one kind. And it was only a few dollars so its nothing special. If it helps i'll see if the sticker is still on the extra bit I have outside tommorow. It held up pretty well during the first run. Even missing a couple screws were the holes werent perfect and I need to ream them a smidget.

Nice work on copying the mount. I have found a great selection of material like that at home depot and lowes at great prices. Thanks for the inspiration.

I may have to get a piece of the H.D. aluminum. I've tried doing it the "right" way with a press brake and using a decent grade of aluminum, but it keeps snapping. We don't have any 'U' ( unhardened) at work, just 'T' (tempered). I can buy the cheap stuff and use my 'vise brake' in the basement and get something that is close enough.

well if you got access to a brake use .090 5052 (5052 is what i use for all my stuff i make) and cut your metal so the natural grain runs 90 deg. to the bend ie. cut it with the grain going the length of the part, should get ya there, your material sounds like its too thick
try dropping down a few gauge sizes i would even go as low as .063 its a small part and mounted
in several places so it will be strong enough..

mrmaxxman- thanks for the info. I'll see if we have any 5051. I work for an aerospace contractor, so we mostly have the 2021, 6061 and 7071 in stock. Maybe I should just hand off my original part to a seasoned press brake operator and see if they can bend it for me, I'm not that great at the press.

that's what I was referring to as the 'vice brake' I gave the part to an old timer who was bored, he says he wanted to try something different so I'll let him have a crack at it.

I'm curious to see if the guy was able to make these for me yet. I wonder if there would be much of a demand for them if I could get them made in bulk.
