Default tlt-1 Question

Ok the pic at the bottem is of mine (like the copper links?) what i would like to know is if the stock gearing on the tlt with a titan motor is good enough to move clod wheels. I want to do some light crawlin mostly just climbing stuff in my back yard like over logs and stuff like that not really rocks or anything like that. Thanks alot for any help.

Got any more pics???

You'd have to gear super super low, mod your chassis plate to take an emaxx spur, a very large one, and the smallest pinion you can find... IF that can move the truck and the clod tires, I still think your driveline is going to break. the drive axles inside the axle cases will break right outside the very last bearing, where the dogbone end is. I woldn't go larger than a 6" tire on a TLT, and it would have to be very narrow and light.

You can do GD-600 at 2.5:1, I did an old HPI RS4/MT at 3.8:1 with a titan and it was at walking speed if not a hair more. The tlt tranny is 2:1 and the HPI is at 2.6:1. so it should be faster at 2:5 and higher gearing.

My TLT is starting out at 200:1 8O with a 17 turn single.

TRD, you can do a 12 tooth pinion with a 96 tooth spure for HPI or Assosiated for Robinson, 8:1 right there with all the other it would be 17:75 before added reduction. GDs will fit in the side of the motor hole horizontall with little sanding of the sides and with a chassie copied from stock lengthened an inch will give you room for the extension of the same hole for the motor too. On the stock chassie you would only have about .125 of an inch left in the bottom back corner when the motor hole is stretched so an extension is required. Easy deal for shorter wheel bases.

right now ive got a stampede tranny in my tlt (its not in that picture). Anyone know what the ratio of a pede tranny with an 81 tooth spur and a 19 tooth pinion is? And how can i figure out my final gear ratio?

Pede tranny is 2.72 x your ratio of 4.26( 81/19) x axles of 1.04:1 =12:1

do you think 5.5 inch tires would be fine on a tlt??

Pedesrule,

To answer your basic question, yes a stock Titan motor with the stock drivetrain would run OK with Clod wheels. For how long is another question.

I was able to run my truck with a 55 turn motor and CEN MT2 tires with out any real problems before going to a pede tranny. The CEN MT2 tires are quite heavy for a 2.2" tire and fairly large at 5.25" tall and 3" wide. I can tell you that the MT2 tires are a fair bit heavier than T-Maxx sized IMEX J-Hawgs as well as many other tires.

I would suggest you drop down to a 15 tooth pinion, the lowest you can go if you switch to a regular 48 pitch gearing.

With the Pede tranny you should be able to use an 87 tooth spur with a 12 tooth pinion, which would be plenty low enough to easily turn Clod wheels.

In the near future I'll be dropping T-Maxx wheels and tires (RPM Widemaxx wheels and IMEX J-Hawg tires) onto my TLT-8 (I call it a TLT-8 because it's 18.25" long and should almost be 19 with the IMEX tires on it).

Pedesrule,

You can get the wheel wideners at www.inetrc.com

They are actually made for the Clodbuster, but they also work on the TLT.

As far as replacing the white plastic piece on the sliders. I use the stock plastic piece on the transmission end, and a metal piece for the axle end. The metal ends are around $20.00 for a pair, but hold onto the axle really well.

Yes, for the most part they bolt right up.

The only thing I had to do is dremel down a little of the plastic hex nut so the adapter fit flush up against the axle.

Here is a pic that shows most of the adapter.
