if your using it as your center transmission then yeah you need to. It will do what its designed to the send more power to the axle with the least resistance which most likly will be the one thats wheels arent on the ground. I have a stampede tranny in my tlt and in my stampede (duh) and both are locked and ive never had a problem with either of them.

Independant suspension trucks aren't really for crawling, they are better fit for jumping and going fast. If you have it in a Pede, the steering will be severely subdued by a locked diff, but you'll be able to do donuts like nothing. I've heard of people blowing them out when they're locked though, but that shouldn't happen if you go slow.

ive had the one in my pede locked for almost two years now and i drive it at least once a week. I had my pede 4wd for a little bit and even with both diffs locked i couldnt tell much of a difference in turning. And i never had a problem with it breakin.
