Default "El Burro" TLT-10 Crawler (Pics)

Hey, well I just got myself my first crawler. If you have been looking at the small scale forum, you'll reconize the car. I am going to take some pics of my own when I get the car. There hasn't been much action on the forum today, so I diecided to post this, and I'm really bored.

Yes, the car is named the burro (donkey or stupid) ...I've always loved that name

Few things I'm thinking about doing...
-wheel wideners
-pede tranny
-new chassis
-new shocks
-Put Maxx sized Mashers on it... and well thats it for now... The tires are 5.5 inch tall... I thought that 6inch would hurt the axles...

Oh yeah, I didn't feel like posting another thread for this off topic question... How can I upload my own avater?? This is the pic that I want for my avater, but I dont see where to put it...

Pics:

This was the build up... I bought the car off of ebay..

56K warning~!!!!!!! He needs to reszie the pics bad!!

Not sure yet... I am going to be in debt for a while ( im 14)

I'll just use my tmaxx body that I have laying around... Once I am out of debt, I will get a jeep body.

I guess no body likes my car... people post when they like the car lol jk...

I got the car Wensday... Heres what I have done so far... (im also trying to get my car to the top of the page so somone will see it!)

I changed the shocks to rc10 shocks, and it made my car flex even less than the gold shocks. I put my battery underneth the servo tray, that way it won't tip over so much and it will lower the cg. Since the battery is in the front now, I am going to take the 2 rc10 shocks off in the back and put the gold ones on, but leave the 2 rc10 shocks in the front since there is more weight there. The shocks didn't want to compress... I figure the added wieght will help.

I'll take pics soon.

sounds like you need softer springs on the RC10 shocks.

yeah.... I'm going to change all of this tommorow.

I have another question....It seems like my diff. arent locked on one side. On the right side, I can hold the wheel and give it full throttle without it slipping out of my hand, but on the right side, it's the opposite. The right side doesn't seem to be locked.
Also, I can push the wheels on the left, and all them will spin, but on the right side only the one I push will spin.

Looking good man, just take your time and think about what one thing will do to another. A good crawler has to work as a unit, not just good one thing or another.

I'm confused about your diff situation. Is it the front axle, each tire will spin freely, without affecting the others, but on the rear you spin one and all 4 spin? If so, that means the front diff isn't locked, but that the rear is.

Get softer springs for your other shocks, don't put the golds back on. Once you flex them a little they don't have a nice fluid motion, they are better run with cantilevers.

Also, grab a different servo horn. Looks like you have a flower growing on the front of your truck

After that, its about running the truck and figuring out its strong points and weak points. One might be moving the lower steering link up above the knuckles. I alread have bent one of mine because it sits so low.

Hey, I figured out the diff. problem, and I would rather not share how I fixed it. It's rather embarrising lol....

I cut the flower into pieces. That is where I put my battery. The battery lays flat touching close to the motor, and extends out and over the servo. I have zip ties holding it down right now, but I'm going to get some PINK velcro (the only velcro I have) .... It crawls much better with the diff. locked.

I am figurering out weak points everyday! and well of course strong ones. I always seem to get my tire stuck under rocks, but thats my problem. I am figuring out routes and stuff to crawl, but I have only crawled on one area of rocks so I am getting good at that one spot. My technique is to go slow!!

Do your tires have foams? I know when I ran foamless 2.2's They would deform under rocks, but with the foams, they perform very well and don't get stuck anywhere near as much.

Well, I would suggest getting some foams in there. Get some that aren't as big as the tires are, and you will still get the deformation traction but you won't get sucked underneath as much.

Also, some wheel wideners wouldn't hurt, your axles look really narrow. Inet RC makes some nice aluminum ones, or you could just buy some front pede wheels.

Anyway, the truck looks good. How did you do at the comp?

I know this sounds a bit crazy, but I am in the crazy mood today.

I want to build a tube chassis for my tlt. I need to know one thing though...

Since people use rustler and pede trannys for there tlts, would my tlt work with my RC10 tranny?? I dont think there would be much of a difference. If this would work, I think I might go for it

Heres my draw up: I didn't want to make it very tall since I have lots of trouble tipping my car over. I think this is because the width of the car isn't the greatest.
I made little dots where the chassis will connect to the other side.

Now that I look at it, i think I need to make the top part higher... o well, I will let you guys choose. I am going to go make it out of straws.

This is what I'm trying to make it look like: but just a lilttle bit different.

straws? like bendy straws? if so then i think you should consider making it out of something a little more sturdy.

lol... no, I am going to make a "pre production model" out of straws. I will then build it out of solid 3/16 and solid 1/8 rod. I'm not that stupid to make it out of straws!
