Whoa, what happened to the side of the chassis? Anyway, the best aluminum to use for a chassis is 6061. It is relatively soft so machining/hacksawing will be easy to do, but it is strong enough that it won't bend. I'd suggest about a 1/8" thickness. There are alternatives to aluminum, like lexan and other plastics that could be easier to work with. As for tires/wheels, just go for a wheel with alot of offset and a tall tire, something like the masher 2000's, the imex swamp dawgs, pullers, J-hawgs, or their new tire that's coming out. Stampede tires are also nice and tall and there is a CEN tire that fits, but I am not sure which. |

Not sure on how much you'll need or the thickness. Try a search for for info on the thickness of the lexan, and the amount you'll need is dependent on how big your chassis plates will be and how many attempts you will need (depending on your fabrication skills) You may get extra in case you want to change the chassis later after finding what doesn't work.

Go with the .120 aluminum like PWT's said. You can get a cheap jig saw for less than $20 and a bimetel blade and cut out all the shapes you want. A good way to plunge and remove material is to drill an access hole for a carbide router bit and take out the material. It is like wood working in that manner just a different approach. We use router's all the time at work to bevel and do the above mentioned. Piece of cake, just be real carefull and if you have never used a router or a jig saw than practice on wood. That is just one of a few way's to do a flat plate chassie. |

how much material you need of any kind of material depands on the design of your chassis. if you just copy the stock chassis then you can put the two sides together, measure them, and then get a rough estimate of how much you need and get the sheet of whatever material you need that matches your measurements. Anyway thats a nice grinding job on that chassis |

i think any grade of alminum is good for chassis plates its not a very high stress part so any grade will hold up fine, unless you like to tangle with 1:1 size rigs |

1/8" lexon seem's a little wimpy for a chassie. Don't be afraid of aluminum, it's not hard to work with.

yeah i would avoid lexan for a chassis unless you just absolutly have to then go thicker than 1/8 inch. Alum isnt hard to work with at all and it will last alot longer and look alot better than the lexan.
