Default Rise of the TLT buildup

a while back i tore apart my tlt to make my tlt/maxx. you mgiht remember it.

well i i dug up the remnants of it tonight...

...and started planning out my new rig.

i want to try and build a trail/utility rig, similar to rbgerrish's courier.
for this project im going to rebuild the tlt. im going to be using the links it has. it should get about a 12" WB. i might relocate the mounting positions so it gets 11". im going to tran and turn each plate into a frame rail. im also going to try and lay the tranny down for better COG. ive also already got a whinch made that will act as a normal whinch and when theres snow on the ground it will raise the plow that i will soon be building. for tire/wheels im not really sure yet. i want scale so im not going to go with moabs, probably swamp dawgs and for wheels ill just get the cheapest good looking set i can.

i dont plan on buying anything till after the holidays cause then i will have money, so for now ill just be planning out and hacking away at the chassis.

ill keep you updated as i go.

last night i cleaned it up a little bit and unasswmbled it to set it up the way i want.

its amazing what you find under an inch of dirt and dust.

heres what i came up with.

laydown tranny. the tranny is going to sit up about .5" from the bottom of the chassis so there is room for adjustable links and skid plate.
there will probably be holes all along the bottom for the links

heres a few pics with better detail of the setup

any info would be greatly appreciated and i wont complain. im actually going to build a normal rig for once

well last night i took the axles off of the tlt/maxx, since im not going to drive it in the snow, and used them for mockup.

in those pics the chassis is sitting 2" off the ground.
its going to have about a 10.5" wb : ( sorry for all those that hate hummers but i love the way they look. i might get a chevy or dodge body later on. i want a more modern body.

Just set the chassis down on the table and run the links out to the axles, don't worry about extra center clearance. With a stubby 10.5 WB (or whatever the WB of the minute is, like a rotating code) it won't be an issue. If you jack up the center, you'll just topple over the second you come to a side hill.

There are only about 10,000 threads here that explain this stuff.

i didnt really like using the stock body because it wasnt scale and the tires werent that bad they just didnt work with the scale. i didnt use the stock tranny, i modified it for the pede tranny. i think it crawled fairly well, it just wouldnt survive in a comp, it kept getting hooked from the bottom and under the axles. some 2.2 probably would have fixed that but i wanted something bigger anyway so i just kinda ditched it.

im glad im rebuilding it cause i missed the little thing. I think it will be better this time. What i like about this porject is that im even using all the stuff it originally had except for the body.

Default ***update***

***UPDATE***

ok tonight for about the past 4 hours i was figuring out measurements and what needed to be done and realized the stock plates are just not going to work. its got a laydown tranny which is going to make it wider and when it goes to flex the wheels were gunna hit the chassis if they dont hit the body first. so tonight i drew up another chassis that will do everything i need it to do. itll have detatchable plow mounts, a plow, and a winch.

heres what i came up with:

and the detatchable plow mounts(the leg and boot looking thing)

i also made a tranny mount.
here it is:

sorry bout the quality of some pics, i was to close to the object and too tired to care.

please let me know what you think of that chassis, besides the fact that it looks wierd.

o yeah the tranny is adjustable depending on what im doing with the truck i can move the tranny around.

if you draw your tranny plates on the edge of the aluminum, you will have one less cut to do and more material left for usage.

Looks like good booty fab. I want to see it mocked up.
