| VMG with 99.96:1 Gearing!
I successfully installed a 6.6:1 gear reduction unit! http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXHHK1&P=0 I had to do Lots of custom work! But it is mounted solid. The unit it's self is 6.6:1 Reduction. Then on the output I mounted an 8 Tooth Pinion. So I am not sure just what the final gear ratio is. However, it is very slow, ton's of torque, and Fanomal throtle control now! I can truly crawl!!! The unit is nice. I was suprised to see Ball Bearings where the shafts ride in the unit. This unit was only $16 at my LHS. I was going to get the Great Planes unit but this was a higher reduction and was in my hand at the LHS. So I bought it! The Stock Motor & Fireball will fit right in to this gear reduction unit. I ended up using the motor that came with the gear reduction unit, it was new and my stock motor isn't. I will get a fireball soon. Below you can see the two Machine screws that I drilled through the frame into a pocket on the unit and bolted it down with nuts. No Movement! Spare frame parts are glued and screwed to the top plate then screwed to the unit for a solid mount. This thing does not move. I am waiting on my Swami Mounts for the steering. I have a rigged up plate that I made that works but I want the clean and solid Swami Mounts. I will complete assembly in a day or two when they come in. For now I hooked up the complete rearend and it was awesome slow controled power! Right now my gearing is 6.6:1<>15.1:1= 99.96:1 Final Ratio |

I mocked up several different mounts but this way is rock solid. No flex in the mounting. If I do an AL frame I will be able to make cross bars to keep it solid in a horizontal position. Please, post some pics of it so I can see how you monted your. Thanks! Now on to the 4ws! |
