Well, I've had this setup in mind for a while, but I just got the body recently (backorded for freaking ever), and I've been mulling over ways to make it unique... Here are the pics: I've got some minor mods planned, but the major thing I could use some help deciding on is the bed... I've been thinking about trying to build it as a truggy, but I've also been toying with the idea of building a wooden flat bed. If I go with the flat bed, I'll build wooden running boards as well, if i go truggy, I'll just loose them all together I'm also going to be building an interior out of a 1/12 camaro model I know its not "true scale" as its a ford body, and chevy interior.... also 1/12 tires are not really an option... I'm also going to be building a custom grille w/headlights Also key to this project is a way to mount it to a chassis, considering I'm not going to use body clips, but since I don't have a chassis at the moment... I'll burn that bridge when I come to it... The rest is standard stuff... tlt axles w/tobee wideners pede tranny maxx shafts moabs on associated 3pc rims (probably going to get changed at some point, since they wobble like crazy with my setup right now...) Thats about all I have right now... its gonna be a LONG time in the making Last edited by chaotic_life; 03-05-2006 at 10:52 AM. Reason: Fixed a few little things... |

Sounds cool. For that body I'd go with the flat bed.

i too would go flatbed, though my real vote is to keep the bed, it looks awsome. If you did go truggy I'd use a different body. |

i would have to say flat bed too. the body is just to old for a truggy, I dont think it would look as good.

I'm with you guys, a flatbed would look good. Like Crawlsalot said, that body on a truggy just wouldn't look right. Matt |

I've been looking at pictures of old trucks, and I'm starting to agree. Well, I guess no major tube work then :-p I was planning on doing a custom grille made of SS, just straight bars accross with cutouts for headlamps, but now that I'm looking at picts of the real thing, I'm liking the stock grille... -Blake Last edited by chaotic_life; 03-05-2006 at 04:28 PM. What about the base of the bed being wood will wood slats above the bed sides? Kind of like the older farm trucks. I think that'd look pretty sweet and you could keep the rear fenders.

Do you mean keep the fenders, and loose the rest of the bed, or keep the bed, add upper slats and replace the stock bottom of the bed, which is WAY too high, with wood at the right height?

I was planning a dark charcoal grey- almost flat, but not quite dead flat. While online looking for reference pictures, I noticed that the bed is about an inch too wide. If I modify the bed, I'll probably end up having to re-sculpt the rear fenders to make then the right width... I think if I do anything to the bed, I'll just re-do the whole deal, save for the wheel wells... make it longer in the process for a better wheelbase, though if I do it, it will go farther out of scale... what do you guy think? Narrow the bed to the proper width? Lengthen it? Both? Last edited by chaotic_life; 03-06-2006 at 04:47 PM. Reason: Added bed refernce picture |

Just take the whole bed off and flat bed it! Then, You won't have to worry about the scale cause there's no exact size for a flat bed. lol

Well, today was mildly productive... Cut out the old running boards, filed them smooth, I also cut the rough running board-just a little scrap of cherry I had sitting around... I got the ss tube cut for it cut too-its gonna get filed to match the fenders... though I need to get the styrene to lengthen the bed with so the length isn't final, but you can get the idea... -Blake |
