After weeks of looking at this chassis on my bench I finally got around to throwing it together. After some of the innovative stuff we have seen here lately, this is pretty ho-hum, but for my first effort at a custom chassis, I think it came out pretty good.

The motor and battery placement along with the super compact and light weight Losi tranny make for a very low CG. Check out the pic of it balanced against the wall. This is RTR with all electronics and battery installed. The tires are off my scalish Bronco and are not weighted. I'm waiting on a new set for this one and some wideners. With weighted tires, the CG sould be even lower.

So what do you think?

Very clean build, excellent chassis. I really like how low and compact it is. I want one

Very cool build. The Stealth, Losi, and Invader trannies are so much nicer IMO!

Looks to have awesome balance! Bet it will do well as a comp rig!

I would like to know more about how you did this, oIIIIIo –

What is that metal shaft coming out of the yoke, and how is it secured to the yoke?

Looks like a Stub axle that has been modded!

Yeah, I realized that as I was posting it. Looks like this part right here, perhaps: Link

But it would seem to be pretty tricky drilling a hole through the shaft. That's why I was wondering how the yoke is attatched to the shaft. On Tower, it says the plastic molded outdrives are pressed onto the metal shaft. How is it secured? Does the shaft have splines, or is it flattened? Would it be possible to pull the outdrive off, cut the shaft, and re-press the outdrive back on? Or is it not that hard to drill a new hole?

Yep, that's the part I used. I already had a pair of them from my Stampede sliders so that's what I used. It was a bit of a pain to attach these to the Losi outdrives. The shaft on the Traxxas stub is permanently attached to the yoke. I just clamped the threaded end into my vice, carefully drilled the hole for the cross pin (use a new, good quality bit and go slow) and then cut it off to length while still in the vice. The steel is not nearly as hard as the outdrives and drills fairly easily.

The next time I do it I will use these ones and save myself a lot of hassle...

those look like plastic to me look at the top left one and you can see a small blemish from where they pulled it off of a parts tree.

I love it, looks like a great, clean chassis. Looks like a very low CG, I was going to use my losi tranny, but I went with a pede cuz I didn't want to make my own chassis. I don't get the battery's though.

Like someone said, the molded outdrives are plastic and are for the XX version. I can't say for certain that they will work, but someone else on here supposedly tried it and claims that they do fit the XXX tranny.

Mad Scientist: I don't remember which bit I used. I just picked the one out of my set that was the same size as the cross pin for the yoke.

CrawlAZ: What don't you get about the battery? It's just a seven cell AA pack. What worked out really nice about this pack is how nice it fits on the upper link behind the front servo (even lower than on top of it), and how the trapezoidal shape of the pack works perfectly with the articulation of the suspension. It works so well it looks like it was designed to fit, but in all honesty it was a convenient coincidence.
