Default Why the heck not.

Well after seeing all these torsion sticks popping up and people saying how well they crawl I decided to see what all the fuss was about for myself. It only took maybe an hour and a half to build and get everything right. As of right now I still need to add some weights to the wheels or axles to help it even more. But I must say it crawls extremely well! I was really supprised at the climbs and sidehills I was able to do despite no wheel weights. The only thing I don't like about it is it's lack of articulation. I still need to play around with different setups to get it where I want it. On to the pics!! Later today I'll post a vid of it on it's first climb . Oh, and it may look like it but only about a 1/4 inch of the motor sits above the tire.

Is this the precursor to the P5?

It's close to it. I might not even continue my other design. And who knows, I may just switch back to my P4 because I can't seem to figure out a way to solve this articulation thing. My P4 was real close in performance too. This design has only given me a another inch or so of ground clearence.

You can get an inch by bending links.

Or just raising the whole chassis. But what's nice about this design is that you get an almost constant clearence the whole length of the chassis.

Well here's that video. It's kinda choppy in the beginning but it's still ok. Nothing great.

Looks like it works pretty well!

Even better is your crawling spot! Now that is sweet!

(I also got my p4 today... thanks!)

I know that the scale I used is probably lying but it says 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. Not much at all.

That's extremely lite. Try adding a little weight to it in strategic locations, Looked like it could have used a bit towards the top portion of that crawl.

Love that rock!

Yeah, I think that we are finding the minimum weight that a 2.2 crawler can effectively crawl with. Lots of cool builds the last week of two.

yep dez is right if you had more weight on that thing you wouldnt have hopped around near the top...but if you get to much traction you could flip so you gotta find the right weight set to get it at.

one thing ive played with is sectioning the frames... the drilled holes didnt weaken my chassis at all. i found that a 1/4 inch tall frame that was 1/2 inch wide would flex 5 inches. but that frame just wasnt strong enough to hold up to the rigors of crawling.

the holes i drilled in it to mount the tranny caused a stress riser that broke it in half the first drop...

tyler did you use angle stock ?

Well after wheeling some more with it I must say, I am REALLY impressed. Everything I've thrown at it it has done with ease, that is, once I figured out the right line . What's impressed me the most though is the breakover angle and having such a narrow chassis makes it so there is almost nothing to get hung up on. All in all I love it. I still need to get some lead weights though .
