Default Stiks - Why are they so great?

Like the title says, what makes a stick chassis such a nice crawler? Seems utterly simple to make, are we just on the cusp of tons of these coming out?

Really light, cheap and easy to make, less junk to break or find replacement parts for. The chassis is narrow which allows for rocks to go around the chassis. The ground clearance on some sticks really sets you ahead of other trucks on the ledges.

Looking through my "parts bin" I have something that might actually work. Is it better to have one cross over (from say right-front to left-rear) or straight back? I worry that either way the axles are getting a lot of stress on the mounting holes of the stick...

Right now I am totally distracted watching Lawrence Fishburn make a fool out of himself on Peewee's Big Adventure on Adult Swim... Not sure why the he!! I am watching this crap, but what ya going to do?
