I gotta admit, when I first saw these designs, I didn't think they'd work. So I had to try it. Damn, crawls like a MF'er! I'm going to post some video of this thing next time I hit my crawling beach. Break-over angle is nuts, balance is great. The only bad thing seems to be mounting the electrics. Anyway, for the record, all I used was some 3/4"x3/4"x1/6" angle from Home Depot. I also posted some clear pics of my BTA Steering setup, as I haven't seen many posted. No-one to compete against here, so I might as well share. Wheelbase works out to 12.5", the stick itself is exactly 14" end to end. The motor/trans is slightly offset to the rear, for no other reason then this is where it sat well. I had to use 2 links front and rear to control the axles. There's one link running from the top of the axle to the stick to maintain 90 degrees. The second link runs from the back of the axle to the stick, keeps the axles from rotating. I was originally only running the top link, but the axles kept moving, pulling the driveshaft out The stick is mounted to the servo mounts. This means there's only one screw, plus the links, holding the stick to the axle. So far, no issues, and no visible stress on the mounting points. BTA Steering, using only stock parts. The cuts on the spindles were to clear the old link mount brackets. Not needed, but didn't feel like replacing them. Sorry for the weener in this shot (and the next), but I was hungry! I just wish you could see the ribs we had too, slow smoked for 3 hours Trans is mounted by 4 bolts, the bottom bolts were drilled in the 'Pede trans and they are stripping out. I have some bigger 6-32 bolts to try next. Mandatory artic shots, showing equal amount in both directions. Lemme know what you think... Last edited by RallyRoach; 07-23-2006 at 12:18 PM. |

Great work, I really like the simplicity. One question? where are you running your battery and what style is it? looks like it might go on top of the servo?

Dude, looks good. It looks kinda like the one I built a few weeks ago. I will need to do the behind the axle steering set up to. Are you running weight in the wheels? I agree with you about how the climb, they are awsome. Here is a pic. of mine. |

Thanks for the feedback all. Unimoger: Its a 6-cell stick pack, and yes, its velcroed on top of the servo. Seemed to make sense, but there's no real way to secure it. I'm still working on that part. axelnut1: I have 1/4 lb of the stick-on wheel weights in each rim |

Yup, those are the old AE 3-pc beadlocks. I just hate glued tires... They work really well, I've only had a tire pop a bead once, and that was when I was crawling in tidepools.
