Default do you really need wideners?

it seems like every comp level TLT i see runs wideners... im in the process of building my first tlt and i was wondering if i really need them or not. im running narrowed pede front weels, only narrowed on the insides. with moabs in them... i might end up competing but i cant see it in my near future.

i agree. i run narrowed HPI wheels and no wideners are needed. i think most people run them to clear the lower links when steering.

they are definitely not "needed" but they are nice. and you could always buy a set in the future if you can't right now.

It all depends on what you going for. Different tires, wheels, link set up, Shocks, bodies, and frames. Like if you run Revo Shocks you will need wideners. Wheel offset can do it too. I'm running 32mm wideners on mine with HPI Spike wheels with 2.2 Red Rocks. They would rub bad if I didn't have my wideners.

I'm running Moab's on narrowed Stampede fronts with no wideners on one of my trucks. No issues with rubbing, but it does look a bit narrow for my tastes. On my newest crawler, I'm running Masher 2k's on stock Tamiya Twin Detonator wheels (same as Wild Dagger). These tires are significantly wider than the Moabs, and the wheels have about 1/4" more offset than the Stampede's so I did not bother to narrow them. With this tire/wheel combo I had bad rubbing with the stock TLT axle stubs so I switched to the Super Blackfoot axle stubs which are about 1/4" wider than the stock TLT. The width is much better and the rubbing is resolved.

I am running 1/2 in. on each side and need them to put more leverage on my maxx shocks/red springs. If I take them off the springs are to stiff.

I like the wider look. But the wider you go the more stress it puts on your knuckles too. But then again many have broke those without wideners.

It's just prefrence. If you rub you may want to consider them but other than that I'd say "you don't need them".

I didn't need any until I put Red Rocks on. I put the ones from the crawler store on and even then they still rub the links a little at full steering.

LOL i ust to run these....
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCAN2&P=7

cus they have a crazy offset... its about a 3/8-1/2 inch wider for each rim compared to a pede front... but they are discontinued... jezus wtf am i gonna do when my set of mashers and moabs go bad...

other than that pede fronts work but i liked having the extra 3/4 of an inch wider...

I used to run 3/4"(each side) wideners on my TLT for the first bit of it's life. But soon found out that it tended to get hung up on the 'pumpkin' a lot. After removing the wideners, the performance was far better. I thought it would be a bit more tippy, but it's really not that bad.
Use the right kind of wheels to create the right width for your truck and you're set. Pede fronts work well. I have a couple sets of tires on Pede rears that I will still use my wideners because of the offset of the rears.

I have a few sets of pede wheels that I am trying to use with my TLT not sure which are the front or the rear. I know they have a diffrent offset betwwen the 2. The ones with more offset (hub of the wheel closer to the the truck) are a little thicker than the other set and I can only get a few threads on, when I put the nut on.
Thanks
