Default Losi XXX Tranny

I'm building a TLT crawler and read these were as good as pede trannies only cheaper. Anyone recommend these? If so which model?

Thanks

yep thats the ticket, drill out to match the size of the dogbone drive then enlarge the slot on the drive to allow the set screw through, done

Rockwerks, I'm glad to hear that its a tough tranny. Now I just need to get ahold of a tlt and get started. I've been wondering what to do with that old xxt.

We've been running the Losi XX-T on ours for a while now and trying to break this machine. During R&D we broke a few things (even shafts) but the tranny still stands strong. The other night out running we pushed it so hard the locked diff actually started poping and we had to open it and do some shimming. After all of this the Losi still hasn't gave a bit.

Are the gears you have in that tranny still stock? If not what have you done to it? Anything special I need or should do to it? Thanks for any info.

As for us all stock gears in the tranny and using T-Maxx shafts with Traxxas steel yokes. Great setup but probably going to be bumping up to Revo shaft soon.

The molded outdrives pictured above are for a Losi XX-T. A couple people here have stated they will also work with the XXX. I've got a set on backorder to give them a try so I can't confirm one way or the other until them come it.

That technique works great with Maxx yokes on a Stealth tranny, but the outdrives on the Losi have a significantly larger diameter which forces you to bore out the Maxx yokes too much. Here's another technique I used on my XXX-T based crawler in order to use Pede sliders...

ehh drilling sucks !!!

i tore both trans down today and one was really nice and clean but doesnt turn too easy and the other has no mounting holes on the outside and was pretty dirty on the inside, but it worked smooth, as i was trying to drill a hole through the cups it caught and snapped the cup in two, took one out of the other trans and snapped that one also... i guess ill try the molded out drive set... but if they are metal how do i get the cross pin in it ?

If you havn't purchased your molded outdrives yet, dont. They are plastic and dont hold up well under a heavy load. Try to mod something metal instead.

I forgot about replying to this thread. I did eventually pick up a set of the molded outdrives and I can confirm that they do in fact fit a XXX-T tranny perfectly. I have installed them in a XXX-T tranny but have not yet tried them under load. They do seem a little flimsy though at the u-joint ears. I suspect they will twist under heavy load. Besides, the holes for the u-joint are a bit bigger than the Traxxas yokes so you also have to buy a special Losi joint.
