| My newly built comp crawler
So I built my first crawler earlier this year, and got hooked. So after getting together with some local guys and having some competitions, I decided that I should build another one, but make it a little more comp worthy. I think I have a great start and will find out within the next few weeks for sure. I would like to thank this board for the wealth of knowledge that I have gained through reading and searching. And I would also like to thank a few of the vendors, namely RD400 and run2jeepn. Ok, on to the specs and pics. Homemade chassis, with a hi-density teflon skid, and link mounts T4 Stealth, locked Integy 55t TLT axles shimmed and locked w/ bearings and Fat rock C's AL knuckles Tobee 24mm wideners Erickson Beadlocks with Moabs Moped ESC HT 645 TQ3 radio and RX Stainless steel lower links and tie rod HPI Jeep body Here are some of the build pics: Chassis with tranny and motor mounted, and servo/link mounts All built up Center ground clearance Obligatory bench top flex shot With the body mounted Tell me what you guys think. |

I like it, not a green fan, but that looks nice. Almost looks like Del Sol green. |

I'm gonna try to get a little time on it Tues after work up North, before it gets dark. Otherwise, I'm going to try and get to Bull or Barton Creek a few times this upcoming week, to get it tweaked. You gonna be around?

So I take it out on the inaugural run, hoping to find the things that need to be tweaked, in order to really accomplish what I had set out to do: Build a truely comp worthy truck off my own chassis. Well, it preformed beautifully....until about the 30 minute mark. Right front and rear left wheels aren't moving. Stripped hexes in the Erickson's? Couldn't be! It wasn't, and now I know why they no longer sell the old style axle shaft. front right left rear And of course Tamiya is out of them which means everyone else is too. Great. Time to plunder the older truck with the Max Climber shafts. |

Thanks. It handled a lot better than I thought it might. Most of the weight is down low. The Erickson wheels with the tires and modified foams weigh a little over 8 ozs a piece, which is almost 3.5 ozs more than with the same tires and the AE beadlocks I had before. And the Stainless lower links add a little extra weight down low as well. I think if I build a saddle pack of 2/3 A's and run them on both sides of the servo, I could get it a lot lower too. All in good time... The shocks are the Yeah Racing 110mm that run2jeepn sells. And that is the eye-eye length. |

That's funny. I painted mine on Sunday but bought the supplies a week before. What's crazy is I saw this old can of Tamiya racing green at the hobby shop, and it was the only can. I hadn't seen one with those colors, so I figured it'd be different, and it was calling me or something. I guess it was calling you too... just over long distance. Nice looking lid, by the way. |
