Default Follow along(and help) as I build my first TLT

I have a TLT based crawler that I bought RTR. It is now time to build one from scratch so I can fully enjoy the headaches and financial havoc that is RC Crawling .

I decided I wanted to build a crawler that is strong, reliable and looks good too. I opted for upgraded parts wherever I felt it was necessary and a little bling blue trim.

I am using:
Black Bender SW2
TLT axles w/ RC4WD lockers
R2 tranny
adjustable shocks from JP Custom RC
aluminum knuckles
aluminum C clips
Moabs mounted on RC4WD blue ringed beadlocks
UTQ3 w/ rebel
integy lathe 55
homemade links with metal rod ends
bearings all the way around
blue alloy body posts, servo mounts
CJ8 body from Unimoger

unsure on which servos yet

here is where I am at so far....still waiting on my hex nut kits to get here to go much further.

I am unsure about how I plan to mount the tranny but the pictured way looks to work out pretty good. driveshaft angles may be too steep though. I will be using punisher shafts 120-150mm range(Im not looking to compete in 2.2)
any advice/comments are welcome.

90mm shocks. I wonder if I may need to move up to the 110's though.

everyone recomends the 4 inch

90 comes in at 3.5

110 comes in at 4.33

so i'm stumped in this dept.

i see the emaxx/tmaxx shocks are 4 inches and many use them or the integy shocks but those are more expensive or the blue hot bodies

i would say you will probably want to rotate the tranny so the motor is sticking out the milled side of the chassis to get your driveline angles more flat. other than that it looks great.

Rotate the transmission another 90 degrees, so the motor is on top and the output shafts are on the bottom. This way your driveshafts will be as straight as possible. Also for more even weight distribution, so the motor is inside the chassis, instead of hanging out one side.

You may have to file down the side of the chassis so the tranny lays flat.

That was my original plan, but I changed it around to keep the center of gravity lower. I estimated the electronics mounted to the far side would offset the motor weight. I think I would be giving up less all the way around how you described though so I will make that work. thanks!

a little more progress. trying to decide what servos I want to run with the rebel...probably go airtronic 359's. need to make links, dampers and get some driveshafts. any recommendations for shafts?
currently the wheelbase is about 16" but it will end up closer to 14". I set the shocks out too far. the width is 11.5".
