why does everyone think the chain comes off? it stays on fine and the tensioner seems to work fine where its at, besides that was the easiest place to put it. i dont think it matters anyway which side its located on as long as it keeps tension so the chain dosnt come off the sprockets. when you make your chain drive trannies you can put the chain on which ever frickin side you want

When I used to work on cars/bikes it was drilled into my head that the tensioner went on the outside of the chain loop... Old habits man... Anyway, where did you get the sprockets and chain? Is it from the Thunder TIger motorcycle like I thought or some other source? I like different things and want to try a chain drive myself.

i got em here
https://sdp-si.com/eStore/
.1475 stainless roller chain and 8t, 28t stainless sprockets. for the smaller cog i'd recomend the 9t, it has a thicker hub to bore for the upper shaft. the larger is the biggest that will fit, in a somewhat stock config. chevellian machined me a shaft for it and bored out the sprockets.

Thor, your chain drive looks sick man. Stock drive products is a great source for gears, sprockets shafts couplers etc. They are a little pricey though, but those with cad will appreciate that most of there parts have downloadable geometry files .

As far as the idler on the inside of the chain, if it works it works, and doesn't really matter. Putting it on the outside will give the chain more engagement with the sprockets and relieve the tensioner from any drive forces.

Can't wait to see this baby run .

The timing chain in an american V8 came to my mind. With the idler on the outside. Seems like it would work either way to me, though.
I've had some belt slipping going on under the most extreme conditions. Has'nt been a real problem yet, but my solution certainly isn't perfect.
Let us know how that setup performs for real. I might have to go with that.
Unless the price of doing it approaches that of an RC4WD R2 transmission.

I think he is referring to his post count.

I like that chain conversion. How are those link mounts working out, they look pretty interesting.
