| TLT Power Issues
Ok, so I finished my first TLT and did some reading and saw that people were using 2/3A Cells on their TLT Rigs so I tried using one of my Hex Packs I had layin around. Worked ok for first test, lasted 2 minutes then just had no power to drive up anything at all. Moved onto a pair of them and that helped a little, more power, but still kinda gutless in the torque department. Truck is TLT w/12" Wheel Base, Duratrax IntelliSpeed ESC (16T Model), Integy 35T Lathe Motor, Stock TLT Spur/Pinion Setup and Tranny. Masher 2000 Tires w/6oz of shot in each one for weight. So my question is, should I abandon the idea of using the 2/3A Cells and move onto Sub C Cells? I am still testing things out, but if I am going to invest in set of Sub C Cells then I just want to go ahead and buy REALLY nice cells. Is there anyone who has some experience to shed on this situation? The search didn't yeild a lot of answers, but I think the Sub C Route is the best. |

So when you moved up to Sub-C did you get more usable power? I just went out and played with my dual Hex pack 1100mAh setup I mentioned, good run-time, but still kinda gutless, not sure if it's the weight of the tires, or just not enough power. I am thinking of buying a nice set of matched 4500mAh Sub-C Cells after work today but $75+ is hard to stomach if it isn't going to be a noticable improvement in performance. Did you notice much when you went up to Sub-C? |

sure do but you must have a good charger to do so or else your $75 is going down the shi7a. and i run 3000mah nimhs and i get a 30 min runtime with a 55T lathe if your looking at going slower for better crawling go waith a 55t they are the bizz |

I have a nice charger, a few of them, so I guess I am buying batteries after work, thanks for the input guys.

i bought a dynamite 3000mah battery, cheap, 20 bucks and i get about an hour of runtime, i am using a 65t motor, i also have 3300 matched pack i used to use for racing that cost about 45 bucks and i cant notice a difference over my cheaper battery.

I don't get it. I run 8 2500mah AAs on my competition rig and I get 45min plus run times and have too much power at times. Even before I went brushless it would run 30min or so.

Well the run time is not the issue, I am talking about power, the 2/3A setup is giving me about 30 minute run times now, but it is still feeling like it is lacking power, I am going to change out the pinion tonight and go to a 65t lathe motor if that doesn't work. Mainly I am wondering if there will be a actual performance increase, more torque/power from upgrading to larger cells, not just run times. If not, I will just invest in some nice 2/3A cells to keep the weight down. |

If you want more "power" than add cell or 2. Diesel and I run 8 cells and have never had an issue looking for power. I am running the 2/3 AA 1400 from cheap batter packs.com and I get so much run time I get bored. I favor the 2/3 AA batteries because I build them around the front axle. I get 8 on it no problem on my TLT. If you need any pics let me know. |

That would be cool, I am thinking of running the same cells from cheapbatterypacks.com, I was thinking 4 on each axle, just behind the front servo and right on the rear servo plate on the rear. I am still trying to figure out if my Intellispeed 16T ESC will handle the 8 Cells. I have a old 8 cell AA pack (flat old on-road tyco car style) that I am going to try out tonight, hopefully i don't fry the esc, but with a 35t motor I think I should be just fine. I strapped a 6cell sub c stick to the truck last night and wasn't impressed enough to warrant the extra weight, so I think the 2/3A route is still best, maybe I just didn't have a good charge or something when I started off. |

frankyrizzo could you posssibly post a pic, i am interested in this area as well, i was running a mini-t 1400mah 6 cell pack and could not notive too much of a differnce over my other batteries, but it is teaney in comparison to my othre battts, but of course run time is lower.

I run 2/3 A 1500 Elite 8 cells w/o issue. Plenty of power and run time, 45 minutes or so. |

I still can't get used to those ugly a$$ piano wire rigs. Looks so unfinished.

Don't know if I would say that, I don't like the look, but as long as they are funtional I don't see a problem with them. I just wonder when the rules are going to start catching up to these rigs, I assume they will finally have a special class for non-convential setups like sticks, torsion frames, etc.... But thats a discussion for another thread. As far as the batteries I think I am on the right track with the 8 cell setup, just not sure on battery size yet. Does anyone run 4/5A packs? I want something close to 2500mAh or so for at least a hour run time since I won't be able to change out batteries, I am also toying with the idea of building battery mounts that will allow quick change out of the dual 4 cell packs. | |

I've used 4/5 A packs before w/ great results. Elite makes a goood 2000 mAH 4/5 A cell. Last edited by dezfan; 01-15-2007 at 01:17 PM. |
