If you want your TLT to be slow and have lots of torque then get the largest tooth count spur gear you can and use the smallest tooth count pinion as you can. If you want it fast with no torque get the smallest spur and largest pinoin as you can. The best combo is probaly somewhere in the middle. You may not be able to find part numbers for the stock TLT spur and pinion as everybody on this forum is using the Traxxas Stampede Tranny. On my TLT I have a Stampede tranny and use a 87t spur and 12t pinion, it has good torque and enough speed to get your out of most situations.

Another way to do it gear your crawler for good torque (you may have to experiment) and then add cells to your battery is you need a better top speed.

stock is 83t spur and a 24t pinion but have no idea what pitch they are

they suck for crawling my nephew has them on his tracer

i say the spur count is fine but the pinion has to be cut down but with the lack of motor mount adjustment this will be a tricky deal, some memebers have told me that they had to dremmel some tranny plates for further adjustement

i have no prob in doing this if we could only get the correct pitch of the stock spur cuz i heard 48p in one and 32p on another

No tranny just "bolts" into a stock TLT chassis except the stock one. The Stampede tranny has been put into stock TLT chassis' many-a-time but it requires cutting and drilling the chassis plates. Read the FAQ sticky addressed to Newbies "TLT-1 to crawler"

I don't think its a 48p, I just tried to mesh a traxxas 48p with the stock TLT and no-go. I thought the 32 pitch is for clods

metric sounds plausable since Tamiya is known for weird strategic egneering decisions like this just so competitors can't get in in the action. I would find a hobby shop that carries Tamiya parts, simple, effective, beer time!

Gear ratio isn't the only thing you need to consider as it is only part of the equation. If you are using the stock motor you can get a 55t, 65t, or 75t lathe motor that will slow the rpms down. Also your tire size plays a part. Larger diameter tires take away torque, essentially adding rpm. You could add a gear reduction unit and make it slower and give it more torque.

The stock gears pitch looks like 48 pitch but its not , try the same spur size (48pitch) and go a lower pinion. dont go too low thats where the belt and the top gear start to slip/strip.
use the stock trans till it breaks then get a pede. good luck.
