I use mini-t springs, or none. I also went to my local Osh and found some diferent rate springs that fit inside the barrel of the tlt shocks, so I can run an internal spring setup. Oil, I use 80 wt.

I lie the rig. I am interested in the droop trend, will have to see how it holds up to time. Seems like a good concept.

The droop setup obviously works well, I've seen it in person on the hustler. It just seems that it wouldn't. With a conventional 4 link, the spring is pressing the tire into the ground to gain traction. With droop, the tire is just falling into the hole with nothing compressing it. Believe me, I'm not knocking the build, it's bad @ss, I just don't understand how it works so well. It'll be interesting to see how a 2.2 rig does with less weight. See ya at the finals Reef.

...Im guessing it just basically moves the pressure from outside tire to inside tire. Seems to me like the setup would have to be dead on and real tight to work right.

I'm no droop expert, the guys at RCP built me this rig, and it does better than any rig I've owned. (Bulu, XRC, BVM copy)
Maybe a droop expert can chime in and explain why it works so well
Obviously the low COG helps a ton.

Well Droopy did pretty damn good at the socal winter series finals. Out of (44) 2.2 rigs in the finals I placed 6th. Still need a bit of tweaking and more time behind the wheel.

Droop is just downward susp. travel.

An all droop set-up is just that, all droop. No compression. Ride hight is fully compressed.

i'm intrested in running a droop setup, however i have the rc18 springs (mini-t's springs are the same diameter) and the diameter was to thick to fit on the inside of a t-maxx shock. Is there a different spring that has a narrower diameter or do I have to run bigger bore shocks and which ones will work?...damn noob, sorry about all the ?'s

Trev (Broncobass) just bent up a new comp rig frame so Droopy will comply to next years rules.
Just finished cutting the aluminium panels.

Introducing Droopy 2.

That is a very nice job...Post more pics later...

Thanks!

Thanks, I can't really take credit for this rig, The fame is by Bronobass and the rig was built by Dean Jones of RCP Crawlers. (Winner of the So Cal Winter Series)
This rig is my first with a droop setup and I'm lovin it, don't think I would ever go back to conventional springs set up again.
The CG is crazy and the RCP CVD's are a must.

Actually, traction is gained by weight placement on the contact patch of the tires. Either spring or droop rely on the weight of the rig on the tires.
A sprung rig does not press the tire down harder to the ground - the springs will lift the chassis off the axles instead.
I just converted my TLT to a droop setup for a test trail, and it did so well in initial test runs that it's staying that way for good. The COG is so much lower, and the suspension still articulates and tracks the terrain just like it would sprung. The only real setback was the lower ground clearance, and it's actually not bad performance-wise despite the chassis being about 1 1/2" lower than when sprung. Torque roll was completely eliminated, something that's impossible to accomplish with sprung suspension.
There's lots of droop info in this thread:
Droopy vs. conventional

Again, thanks Big Mike!

Very helpful. I have been running droop for a while now, but oil keeps leaking out so I need to fix that. I am running 60/40 now to see if there is a diff.

What is your clearance for your cog on your rig? How many inches exactly does the bottom of your chasis to ground come to.

what do you think about running straight links for bent links and where do you think they should be mounted, side of axle or on top?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
