what advantage do you have to pointing your top links in? like this:

It is just a matter of how much triangulation you want/need. The more you have, as in your first pic the less side to side axle sway you will have.

The second pic you have is of the K2 setup, which is what I run. It does not appear to have much triangulation in the pic, but the setup still works very well.

Search around for some threads on setting up a 4 link there is tons of good info on it here.
