Default 45t lathe gearing

i just bought a 45t integy lathe. i had a 55. i was geared at 81 spur and a 12t pinion but i just broke the 12t pinion. my next pinion is 15. that would put me at a 5.4 ratio with a pede tranny on masher 2k rims. is this too high of pinion ?

thanks

For starters, the 45t is going to have more rpms, than the 55t. Also gearing up on the pinion will increase rpms. So, you are going to have quite a bit more wheelspeed. Too high?, it just depends on your rigs weight, and what you're doing with it. Also what terrain you run on will dictate how much wheelspeed you need as well. Also, you will lose some low end grunt, as you gear up.

sorry i should of worded my 1st post better. i know what changing to a higher tooth count pinion and or lower tooth count spur will do and vice versa, same goes for motor winds and turns.

i should of asked if anyone else tried this ratio. i guess it doesn't matter as i need more pinions anyway. maybe just buy a 12,13, and 14 tooth so i have a better rang. all my other gears are 64 pitch.

i think i just started a useless thread. ooops sorry guys. i had a moment.

I first set mine up with 45t and 12/87 pede tranny...works great so that's what it has stayed...RRP pinions break easily. Get a Losi 12 tooth! Anything over 13 teeth is going to be way too fsast for crawling.

Losi 12T 48 pitch pinion (p/n, LOS4112):

i found that out. just a little to much torque when tightening and snap.
