Default Axle E clips and Spacers?

i am building 2 tlt axles and i have both front and rear locked with the rc4wd spool. in the front i have RCP's CVD and in the rear i have The steel axleshafts from RC4wd. on both of these axles i have the Hardend steel pinion from RC4WD also. i have noticed that the pinion has play in it. when it slides into the axle housing it locks up the axle, binding. also the axle shafts have play in them allowing them to slide back and forth. this changes the pressure the spool has on the pinion. this cannot be right. i was curious if washers are used as well as e clips or what is the proper way to prevent this when hooked up?

thanks to all.

Can you take a pic of the inside of your axle? My axleshafts don't move side to side, and I run CVD's F/R, no extra shims. I shim my pinion towards the ring gear enough to take up the slop, but it does not lock up the axle, maybe something to do with the steel pinion and aluminum spool, or proper tolerances on the RC4WD parts?
