| Having clearance issues and other mishaps...
here are couple of pics of my scratch built hack crawler with tlt parts. it's not pretty, but i really tried using everything that i learned on here. please give me some advice on clearance and articulation. mods on the build: * pede tranny mounted flat * traxxas sliders with hardened yokes (sliders are also extended) * T3 rear shock mounts used as chassis plates * traxxas long links for the top linkages * custom created bottom links (CF and aluminum) * cutting board skid plate * aluminum window guides for the stretch * piggybacks on rc10t4 shocks with factory team shafts and mip gold long shafts made for e/tmaxx * axial beadlocks * moabs * bb's in the front tires only (ran out after filling the front) * hardened steel hex screws everywhere * 45t hand wound arm in reedy can geared 90/12 * 7.4 2000m lipo * hitec 525 servo * about 12.5 wb I still can't get over curbs, and can't sit it sideways. any other info that you can think that may help me, just ask. i would like to be competitive, but i don't go to the meets that often. thanks for the help. manny Last edited by tycodad; 10-28-2007 at 11:51 PM. |

Pics would REALLY help here. Keeping the weight as low as possible is important, but you may have already done that. As far as articulation, too much is not always a good thing.

Okay, now that I've seen the chassis, it will never sit on it's side. It's too tall. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not an expectation to have with that setup. What other questions did you have. Are you having articulation problems?

my artic is in the 60 range. it won't go 90, but i understand, that may be too much. how do i adjust the links so that it clears curbs. do i want to be able to clear curbs? what would i need to compete in teh novices? thanks.

Your articulation is just about right maybe a little to much . Too much will get you bound up more often which normally means broken parts. I would pick up a good chassis or if your handy which it looks like you are just go pickup some 1/8 or 3/16 inch ally plate at your local metal yard or scrapyard if you can get it as scrap it's pretty cheap. Pull out your jigsaw and go to town and lower cog is the key. The easiest way to do it is draw it out then clamp two pieces together so they come out the same.

Climbing a curb can be tough. My comp truck is very nicely set up, and I don't know if I could do it. I do agree that you might have more articulation than you need. I think I can raise a tire about 40 degrees before another one lifts.
