| Questions about Tube Frames
(First, I posted this in the TXT section as I am going to use TXT drive train for this build. Mods, Please move as desired.) I am getting ready to start a tube chassis and currently am in the process of getting all the tools together. I have the Harris safty silver kit, gloves, eye protection, benders and tubing... However what I cannot find anywhere is the pencil tip for the MAPP gas. I would like to get your opinions on the use of this tip. Is it crucial? Also, when soldering, I can see that it would be hard to jig the work straight and then heat and solder the joint with just two hands. Is using a hose and handheld tip easier or do you guys use a fixed tip attached to the bottle? Thanks for the help!

I have both a pencil tip and a larger tip. I find the large tip better at heating up the parts faster. As for connecting the tip to the bottle it is your preference. I like to use the hose but I can and sometimes use the fixed tips for certain jobs. It is nice to have the options. As for holding parts I have a vise and three sets of helping hands. I have also used rare earth magnets to hold parts in place that would be hard to braze with out them. Check out my Maxx build thread it has some pictures of my brazing setup.

also just the spring loaded metal clamps with the rubber grips on them work good for holding stuff in place while brazing. ill try to find a pick of what i mean. like these http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/S...11f+1177001844 Last edited by xjwalt666; 04-19-2007 at 06:17 AM. |

So what you are saying is that the pencil tip is not what I need? (contrary to other things I have read)
