Question transmission binding

Hi. my cc-01's tranny is binding alot and makes a strange clicking sound.
I have taken it apart and inspected but i couldn't find anything wrong.
does anyone have a good idea what it could be?

Sorry, do not have one to look at.
Checked the manual with trans breakdown here
http://rcdocuments.com/Tamiya_VW_Tou...al_(CC-01).pdf
Lots going on in there.

Do the larger bevel gears all look good without wear?

Have you carved up the chassis at all? ie. weaker chassis looks like it could cause the gearbox mechs to twist under torque.

How beefy is the pc the motor mounts to? Plastic?

Sorry cannot be much help.

check these things:
-is the black cover securely fastened? if its even just a little 'not tight' it will let the gears move a hair, and that's enough to unmesh them.
-is your pinion a tamiya specific one, I think it needs to be 48pitch metric, not the standard 48 pitch.

true statement..

but it wouldn't make a clicking sound...just a high pitched whine/grind.

check for slop in your gears..are you running bearings?? number one upgrade on these..if your not running bearings the mesh might be compromised in the fact that the bushings might have wear and the slop will screw with your gears...i.e. new gear time...

take the gear top off and take a pic of it....that might help us...

I think the black cover is tight enough. I've put 3mm machine srews and nuts in three of the holes. the pinion is the stock one.
I have ball bearings almost everywere theres only the smallest bushes in the tranny thats not upgraded.
I have greased all the gears to see if that would help, but it did'nt.
it sounds almost as one of the gears are slipping on the other but I tried holding the tires and pushing the throttle but no sound or slipping then.

You might check your pinion set screw. I had one that came in contact with the spur everytime it rotated, making a clicking sound. Just a thought. Keep us updated.

check for molding tabs and flash on the edges of the gears. One of mine tranny gears from my new kit had a small piece of material that contacted the side of the chassis tub and made an awful noise.

I crashed my CC-01 and it put a crack in the front of the chassis and Part of the lid to the gears was cracked also. Every since I did that, my gears do the same clicking sound. Had to buy a new chassis and lid.

yesterday I took the tranny apart and inspected all the parts. the only thing i could find was a small tab on the outside of the tranny cover.
put everything together and now it seems fine. will do a test drive today to see if it comes back.

thanks for all replies

on mine the previous owner did not build it with bearings, or shim the gears. the bushings wore the shafts that they ride on and let them flop around enough to skip and only have front wheel drive. coincidentally, anybody know the part numbers for the transmission shaft bag?

They also have a bad habit of the rear axle diff loosening under heavy crawling type loads. The three tiny screws need a bit of locktite on them.
