Hey, i just ordered a cc-01, this is my first. the big question i have is just what tools are needed to build it, and i also have the radio from a t-maxx that i was going to use and was wondering if it would work.

To build I would suggest having some pliers and screwdrivers and a hobby knife. A good hex wrench helps, but one is included with the kit. An allen wrench helps, but one comes with the kit too. Some CA for the tires may be a good idea, but if you think you may want to change the tires later go light on it (and you likely will, they are hard as rocks)

Its a very simple rig to build.

I would suggest installing ball bearings right from the start if possible.

I highly suggest locking the front and rear diffs as well if you want to actually climb obstacles.

Thanks, im doing this on a really tight budget right now so add ons are going to have to wait a little bit but im just happy to be getting the kit. thanks for the help

have fun! you will like it, be sure to use the rear diff locker in the kit and do the front diff lock mod, search the forum for it.. their free mods that really help.

get us some pics when you get it!

and yes, the traxxas rx/tx will work. thats what im using.

ive seen a few ideas for the front locker but i think the one that i want to use is the third gear in the front dif. would you recomend that as being the best and also about the traxxas kit, does it matter which of the servos i use off the t-maxx or is there a difference between the three.

yea, take the 3rd spider gear and place it between the 2 other ones, works well. and any standard servo will work.

2forty3, when you do this be sure the cover goes back on the diff perfectly flat. if there's even a little bulge it will rub the chassis and cause you tons of headaches. otherwise sounds like you're good to go.

So i got it and built it, sorry for no pics, i dont have a camera at the moment. But it all went smoothly, i just built it with all the stock parts as i get money ill make some upgrades. the biggest problem i had was painting it, it came out pretty badly but what ever i just wanted to have a truck to drive. But ive been looking at tires an i want a better tire than stock, which ive heard is not too had to do but i want one that looks like a tire you would see going down the road. nothing overly aggressive, ive pretty much got it narrowed down to two tires but i was wondering if any one has personal experiences with them. the two im looking at are the dirt grabbers and the dick cepek mud country tires.

Finally got some pictures, Did a few things, Locked the front, Gpm steering, 4link, wheels and tires. some other odds and ends. Had it a out a few times, does better than i thought. I have a blackfoot body on the way, so when i have that all sorted out and together ill take some more pictures. I know the paint now is terrible.

Had it out for a short run today. it was fun until i thought i would go through a shallow puddle and it was a little too deep.

Hey guys, after an outing, the gears started to make some bad noises so i took it apart and ive been trying to fix it for a few days but no matter what i do it still sounds the same, i took a picture as reference if anyone can tell me what to check it would be great, thanks

im one as well! but as the problem, it looks like the tallest gear might be rubbing the chassis. reason is if you look closely there is black residue and there is black all over it. is it stripped out or anything? now for my questions how does it perform stock? is it more of a crawler or slightly moderate trail or more of a flat trail rig?

Well i just put it back together and it still makes the noise, but it only makes it when its the throttle is on going forward but when i let off and it is coasting it sounds good. When in reverse its find under power but when i let off to coast it sounds bad. If that makes any since. As for performance its a moderate trail rig. But i never had it out with stock tires, and the front diff has to be locked

Are you using bushings from the kit or ball bearings?

Pull all the gears, clean them and the chassis and reinstall everything well lubed. As stated above, check for wear on the chassis where the gears sit. I'm new to the CC01 but not to Tamiya kits. There are those rare times you get a part that passed QC but is out of spec.

Might need to upgrade to the BBs if you have not already. Those bushings never last and only get worse after every run. Keep us posted.

like i said never had one but, i think i would go ahead and buy a new gear set. if that dont work well you missed the problem, have a back up set, and have a new set in it

just playin, when you put it back together do you tighten the bolts all the way? do you strip them out? if so the torque could be pushing up the case (reason for black residue) and making the gear pop up, and in reverse it would push the gear downward. if it is stripped out get some teflon tape and rap it around maybe twice. hope this helps

Thanks guys, Ill look into the new gears, i still havent figured it out, but i think ive narrowed it down to the spur or the pinion, if i take out the motor and test it, it sounds fine. so thats where im at now... thanks for the help though i appreciate it.

Just use some of the other two methods to lock the diffs...inverted spider gear or glue (even hot glue work well)...

Make sure your gearbox cover is locked down tight- any movement will allow the gears to hop. Also double check the grub screw on the pinion, this can work it's way out and start chewing on the spur gear if it's not locktite'd in. Pull the gears out- especially the spur gear and check for any debris that may be in the chassis- there's very little clearance in there.
